Resident Engineer

PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE

The Resident Engineers will assist the Section Manager with projects located in our KwaZulu-Natal region, either between Port Shepstone or at the Vryheid project site.

The Responsibilities

The RE will be responsible for the following elements of the construction works under his/her responsibility, but is not limited to the following:
  • Contract Administration acting as Resident Engineer for this project.
  • Reviewing the construction drawings and managing the processes of dealing with Contractor queries by liaising with the designers through the required communication lines.
  • Inspection of the works and test results for quality control.
  • Preparing and updating estimates to completion.
  • Maintaining records of site administration and communication in terms SMECs quality management system and Construction Manual.
  • Attending and contributing to taking minutes at technical and site meetings.
  • Maintaining monthly progress reports.
  • Liaison with clients and contractors.
  • Managing resources for site supervision.
  • Monitoring of quality of works.
  • Monitoring of programme and contract budgets.
  • Handling claims.
  • Preparation of variation orders.
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement
  • Closing out projects including compiling completion/closeout reports; and
  • Monitoring of Environmental Management Programs for the project
Recommended Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • The Resident Engineer shall hold as a minimum a BSc/BTech (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering and be Professionally registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
  • At least 10 years experience in road and construction projects of which at least 5 years have been spent as a Resident Engineer on asphalt road design and/or road rehabilitation projects.
  • The Resident Engineer should have extensive experience in the use and interpretation of major conditions of contract and in managing contractual issues.
  • Experience with General Conditions of Contract 2015 will be advantageous.
  • He/she must be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Experience with COTO OR COLTO will be advantageous
