Job Description
Environmental Compliance (Legal & Group)
- Design, develop and maintain an environmental compliance program for the site (including inspections, internal & external audits and performance tracking) for all relevant regulatory (legal, license and permit conditions), Group (Polices and Standards) requirements and applicable international standards such as the IRMA Standards and the IFC Performance Standards.
- Develop and maintain Commitments Register of all site compliance requirements.
- Facilitate the management of external audits.
- Lead the development and implementation of improvement plans to address identified compliance gaps; ensure close out and tracking of inspection and audit findings.
- Manage, coordinate, monitor and obtain SIB project applications related to Environmental Permits (in collaboration with the Environmental Principal for the site while engaging with Permitting).
- Provide support to the process, information requests and logistics on site, to assist the Environmental Authorisations Principal on Capital, LoAP and Tech Dev projects and related IDM processes.
- Undertake amendments in collaboration with the site Environmental Principal.
- Support the Permitting team, when authorizations are received, to review EAs and Licenses and allocate responsibility to relevant responsible persons across the operation.
- Coordinate and monitor environmental aspects, impacts and risks for the site in alignment with AA's ORM program and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Design, develop and maintain an EMS that is aligned with the SHE Way, certified to ISO 14001, and aligned with international standards such as IRMA and IFC.
- Develop appropriate data Operational Procedures or Management Plans to support the EMS.
- Coordinate and monitor environmental input into management of contractors from tender evaluation through to monitoring of contractors activities at site.
- Interrogate Environmental Incident data to identify root causes, control failures, trends and report findings to the environmental and operational teams with the objective to prevent reoccurrences in line with AA Learning from Incidents (LFI) program.
- Collaborate with BU and Group to ensure continuous improvements in compliance monitoring and implementation of EMS.
- Work with Project teams to support environmental authorization/ permitting applications to ensure alignment with site EMS, managing specialist or consultants as needed.
- Take part in team leadership sessions that will improve environmental knowledge and skills.
- Effectively coordinate and monitor the Management System and Compliance function to establish a high-performance culture.
- Coordinate and monitor Management System and Compliance function and individual objectives.
- Support the development of team member knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
- NQF 7 or 8 Degree in Environmental Science or equivalent
- Relevant Environmental Short-Course Certificates (such as ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) environmental auditing, environmental legislation
- At least 5 - 8 years experience in extractives industry, or environmental consultancy with demonstrated expertise in managing ISO 14001 and undertaking environmental audits and due diligences.
- Environmental audits and due diligences design and implementation.
- Familiar with regulatory and permitting requirements, and requirements of international standards such as the IRMA Standards and the IFC Performance Standards
- Computer literacy
- Code B drivers license
