Job Description
- Resource must ensure that the appointed mining contractor(s) are aware of the conditions in the EMPR and enforce compliance.
- Become familiar with the conditions of the Water Use License (WUL), Integrated Waste Water Management Plan (IWWMP), Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP), Clients Water Management Strategy and any other Specialist Studies to ensure compliance is effectively carried out on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis as per the requirements. Implement any studies that will be required in order to comply with the EMPR and ensure all reporting requirements are complied with.
- Ensure the appointed mining contractor(s) are aware of the conditions in the EMPR and enforce compliance.
- Be able to contribute to the development and implementation of the Water Management Strategy.
- Ensure Rehabilitation is being conducted as stipulated in the Rehabilitation Plan.
- Conduct weekly inspections to ensure compliance to permits, licenses and legislative requirements.
- Become familiar with the Isometrix System (or similar incident reporting system) and report Environmental Incidents as per the Environmental Incident Reporting Guideline and as per the requirements from the approved permits and licenses.
- Draft Scope of Works (SOW) for tenders to source competent service providers to conduct third-party activities such as audits, waste management, environmental monitoring, permit and license amendments, specialist studies etc.
- Schedule, Plan and Ensure that Environmental Compliance Audits take place as per the stipulated frequency in the permits and licenses.
- Implement and review the monitoring network for surface water and groundwater, air quality monitoring, noise, blast and vibration and any other monitoring requirement as stipulated in the approved permits, licenses, supporting Specialist Studies and National, Provincial and Regional legislation.
- Prepare presentations to provide feedback on the environmental monitoring results and audit outcomes to Management and Clients Divisional Environmental Team on a weekly / monthly basis.
- Be a custodian of the planning meetings to ensure that robust technical discussions are had.
- Be the representative for mine at environmental forums and catchment meetings held by the Competent Authorities.
- Ensure that Internal and External Environmental Audits, Inspection Reports and updates of specialist studies and plans are submitted to the relevant Competent Authority as stipulated by the approved permits, licenses and from supporting specialist studies.
- Ensure that the necessary infrastructure to ensure compliance to the approved permits and licenses constructed as per the civil designs.
- Amend permits and licenses as and when required, in consultation with the Client Head Office technical team.
- Ensure Specialist Studies are updated as and when required.
- Keep accurate records of data as per the ESG, KPI and GHG reporting requirements.
- Provide monthly reports on environmental performance to Clients Divisional Environmental Team.
- Conduct daily rehabilitation monitoring and monthly rehab reports.
- Monitor stripping and stockpiling as specified by the Specialist.
- Ensure that all soil stripping, placement and seeding is done in accordance with the Rehabilitation Plan / Procedure.
- Ensure environmental induction for all employees on environmental aspects and impacts, applicable legislative requirements, approved permits and license requirements, hydrocarbon spills, waste management, incident reporting and environmental monitoring is conducted.
- Draft and present other environmental awareness training as required.
- Prepare monthly Environmental talk topics.
- Draft and Implement Environmental Procedures / Standard Operating Procedures.
- Source and effectively manage the required Service Providers to ensure effective environmental management takes place on site and compliance to the requirements of the approved permits, licenses and supporting specialist studies.
- Participate in Risk Assessment Workshops and Update Risk Assessments as and when required.
- Ensure that all certificates and permits that are required for removal of any sensitive environmental species are in place prior to mining taking place as stipulated in the approved permits and licenses.
- Ensure that all daily / weekly / monthly / quarterly / biannual / annual requirements for effective environmental management as stipulated in the approved permits, licenses and supporting documents are conducted.
- Be the custodian of compliance inspections and site visits by Competent Authorities and notify Management and Clients Divisional Environmental Team timeously of such inspections and visits.
