Executive Deans

The Walter Sisulu University seeks dynamic, highly accomplished, and visionary executive deans to lead the various faculties in the university. The Executive Dean is the executive head of the faculty, and as academic leader is responsible for positioning the faculty strategically and for pursuing the strategic goals of the University. The incumbents will be responsible for providing strategic direction and managing the faculties as well as aligning the work it does with the strategic objectives of the University.

The portfolio has a number of critical components which include:

Development of faculty strategy, implementation of the WSU Strategy in the faculty, taking account of its multi-campus nature and national imperatives.
Lead and direct teaching and learning practices, processes and competencies that achieve academic excellence as well as teaching and learning innovation.
Support the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to promote teaching and learning innovation.
Establish and maintain a research environment and support infrastructure enabling world-class research.
Lead and direct community engagement initiatives that are integrated with teaching and learning as well as research.
Funding, professional recognition, academic development, research opportunity realization through effective local and international relationships with peers, higher education institutions, research community, industry, professional bodies and the community. Vacancies exist in the following faculties:

A. Faculties:

• Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology
• Faculty of Education
• Faculty of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
• Faculty of Management and Public Administration Sciences
• Faculty of Natural Sciences

Inherent requirements
A Doctorate in any discipline related to the faculty.
A minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience in the higher-education sector, of which five (5) years must have been in a senior and strategic leadership position in a university.
Proven research record.
Must be a professor/associate professor or appointable as professor/associate professor at Walter Sisulu University.

B. Faculties

• Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences
• Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Inherent requirements
A Masters in any discipline related to the faculty and a relevant professional registration, e.g. CA(SA).
A Doctorate will be an added advantage.
A minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience in the higher-education sector, of which five (5) years must have been in a senior and strategic leadership position in a university or academic hospital.
Proven research record.
Must be a professor/associate professor or appointable as professor/associate professor at Walter Sisulu University.
