The GSB&L has an established track record in providing management education and training to business and public sectors. The Executive Director/Dean is responsible for the academic leadership and management of the School and the Executive Education Company. The College seeks to appoint a dynamic and strategic individual whose leadership will re-energize and reposition the school into strengthening collaborative efforts with communities and industries but also aligns with strategy 2023- 2030 and the on-going project renewal.
The Executive Director and Dean provides high-level academic leadership and strategic direction of the School in research, teaching, community and business engagement, local and continental strategic partnerships, and transformation consistent with the Universitys and the Boards vision and mission.
The incumbent will have Director Business Engagement, Director Strategic Partnerships, Head of Doctoral, Head of Research, Head of Executive Education, Head of Masters, academics and professional services staff under his/her leadership, interacting closely with leadership outside the school.
The Executive Director/Dean is part of the College Leadership and Management Team and reports to the Board and to the DVC though ultimately represents Senate and Council mandates.
Minimum Requirements:
PhD/Doctoral Degree in a discipline relevant to the GSB&L.
Demonstrated experience in an academic/research leadership role.
Minimum five (5) years experience in management and leadership of a unit of significant size and at an executive level.
High profile and standing within the business community, with the ability to network with key stakeholders locally and internationally.
Proven experience in leading and managing change

Exceptional interpersonal relationship skills
Demonstrated track record of fundraising and attracting competitive research grants.
Understanding of the higher education environment in South Africa and the relevant legislation.
Evidence of good knowledge of the SA academic and higher education environment
A broad understanding of developments in the various disciplines within the GSB&L at a national, international, regional and continental level.
An externally-recognized, leading authority in a subject area with a considerable national and/or international reputation

The term of office for this position is five (5) years with the possibility of renewal based on performance. In the case of applicants who are permanent staff members of UKZN, the successful applicant will resume his/her substantive position at the end of this term of office.
