The Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management is seeking to appoint a Learning Experience Designers to its Teaching and Learning Unit. The position is a 3-year contract, and is based in Johannesburg, Gauteng.The Learning Experience Designer will
:
- curriculate, design and develop evidence-based, inclusive online and/or blended learning programmes and courses;
- facilitate or co-facilitate professional learning short or micro courses;
- conduct workshops on online and/or blended learning experience design;
- provide support to academics around the institutional Learning Management System (Canvas) and other educational technologies (such as Articulate);
- participate in collaborative project work.
The incumbent should have a passion for learning experience design aimed at supporting students self-directed learning, and the use of appropriate educational technologies to promote active and collaborative learning. The successful candidate will be conversant with, and actively keep abreast of developments in the science and scholarship of learning and teaching, learning experience design, and educational technologies.
The incumbent should be comfortable communicating with academics and administrators at all levels as they will work across several faculty and institutional settings and will collaborate with various stakeholder groups and communities of practice.
The Key Performance Areas For This Position Are
- Collaborating with academic staff to actively design and develop evidence-based, inclusive blended and/or online learning programmes and courses within the relevant frameworks and approaches adopted for specific contexts
- As part of multi-disciplinary teams, assisting in the conceptualisation, design and development of academic professional learning programmes.
- Facilitating academic professional learning short or micro courses.
- Engaging in the scholarship of learning and teaching by:
- staying abreast of current research on learning science, learning experience design, and educational technologies as it relates to the design and development of, and teaching in online and/or blended learning programmes and workshops.
- participating in sector-wide academic professional learning networks and activities.
- Playing an active role as an academic citizen of the faculty, Wits and of the broader Higher Education community.
- Liaising with and market the Teaching and Learning Unit service offering to internal stakeholder communities.
- An Honours degree (or equivalent) in the field of Curriculum Development or Education (e.g. Curriculum Studies, Computer-Integrated Education, etc.) or other relevant discipline is required for this position.
- A minimum of 3 years of Higher Education working experience including experience with initiatives for the design, development, teaching, and coordination of online and/or blended learning programmes and courses in a complex university environment.
- Proven, demonstrable ability to conceptualise, design and develop online and/or blended learning programmes, including interactive course guides and online courses, from formulation of applied competency-based outcomes, through crafting constructively aligned assessment criteria, learning experiences, and valid, authentic on-campus and remote assessments
- Well-established teaching, mentoring/coaching, inter-personal, assessment and communication skills.
- Managing and formal evaluation of programme development projects or initiatives.
- Willingness to engage in continuing professional learning.
- Extensive experience with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas or Moodle.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Good report writing and research skills.
- High level of computer literacy and proficiency in software such as the Office365 suite of programmes.Preference will be given to qualifying candidates with:
- Preference will be given to qualifying candidates with a Masters degree or higher in the field of curriculum development (e.g. Curriculum Studies, Computer-Integrated Education, etc.) or other relevant discipline.
- Specialised skills in production of learning objects and educational media.
- Solid experience in the use of software such as:
- video recording, photography, and/or editing equipment and software;
- HTML authoring software (such as Articulate);
- graphic design software;
- screen capture software;
- other standard multimedia and web development tools.
