Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Field Extension Officer in the Agricultural Department to be based at the Delmas site. The successful candidate will report to Head of Field Services.

Purpose Of The Job

The Field Extension Officer is responsible for ensuring the correct variety mix of potatoes are contracted, planted and harvested in accordance with timelines and agreed pricing so to deliver the required volumes and quality at the right time and the right price to the production team. He/she is responsible for expanding grower base and volumes, ensure compliance with company guidelines and provide technical support to growers. Monitor fields on two weekly basis, highlight risk to the Company and Growers and ensure that Growers are GAP and legal compliant.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelors Agric Degree in Agronomy/Crop production or Crop Science
• Advantage will be given to applicants who are AVCASA and BASOS certified.
• At least 4 -6 years operational agricultural experience of which at least 4 years should be potato production related in a similar role advisory role
• Valid EB Drivers License (Code E)
• Exceptional knowledge and understanding of agricultural production systems and variables, e.g. crops, climate, disease, fertilization, irrigation, soils, etc.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal, problem solving and relationship building skills.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging operational environment.
• Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills.
• Strong technical potato knowledge
• Strong relationship management and communication skills
• Ability to work productively in a stressful environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills and results orientated.
