Role
To provide a professional field guiding and interpretative service to the guests of this Kalahari Reserve, in a safety conscious way, and to assist in habituation projects.
Guiding experience
- Guides guests in a professional manner on game drive, bush walks and on horseback
- Consults with guests about their interests and preferences
- Plans and organises outings, excursions and activities as per guests needs and expectations, in conjunction with Hospitality Operations Manager and the kitchen
- Ensures the comfort and wellbeing of the guests at all times
- Ensures guest safety at all times, especially regarding field conduct, vehicle safety, firearm procedures and proximity to dangerous game
- Interprets and explains the reserves wildlife, ecology and environment for guests
- Serves guests with refreshments while in the field
- Transport guests to and from the airfield or where required
- Respects wildlife and the environment while guiding
- Conform to this Kalahari Reserve's "Guiding Code of Conduct"
- Maintains game viewing vehicle and all equipment in a neat, clean and presentable condition
- Completes and adheres to all administrative procedures
- To comply at all times with the guidelines set out in the operations manual, which will ensure the co-ordinated and smooth running of the business at the correct standards
- Must fit in with hospitality operations and to conform to the team spirit and ethos
- Furthers and develops knowledge about wildlife and the environment through self-study or organised courses
- Assists with wildlife monitoring
- Works with and helps develop trackers and assists with training new or trainee guides or interns
- Be flexible in duties
- To form part of the firefighting team
- Perform night manager duties (When guiding out of Tarkuni)
- Provides assistance to other sections and departments in respect of guest services
- Be available to serve on various committees that are required by the company and by law
- CATHSSETA Registered Guide
- FGASA level qualification or equivalent (Preferably level 2 or 3)
- Valid First Aid Certificate (Department of Labour)
- Social media
