The role in a nutshell
In this role, you will contribute to the preparation of the trial balances for entities within the Luno Group.
The core outputs for this role:
Accounting responsibilities:
- Full financial accounting responsibility of the African based legal entities. The main entity being Nigeria.
- Reviewing the reconciliation of the corporate bank accounts in different currencies & countries prepared by the Accounts payable team.
- Preparing the key internal control reconciliation of the African customer fund bank accounts (i.e. fiat assets under management).
- Preparing, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Reviewing, posting and releasing payment of employee expenses and travel reimbursements
- Taking ownership of invoice posting, payment releasing, master data management and supplier reconciliations.
- Comfortable working with complex intercompany accounting.
- Reviewing (inputs are prepared by the People team) and preparing the payroll journals for your entities
- Supplier invoice & payment processing review
- Supplier reconciliations review
- Preparing year end accruals and prepaid expenses in preparation for the audits.
- Uploading bank statements into Sage and manage access to the various banking platforms
- Prepare monthly trial balances for internal reporting
- Prepare reporting results in the required formats for compliance reporting purposes.
- Prepare and analyze the Actual versus Budget reporting for your allocated departments.
- Ensuring the African legal entities corporate accounts are adequately funded.
- Forecasting monthly cash flow requirements.
- Manage the forex process with the banks for incoming funds and submit the documents in a timely manner
- Ensuring intercompany loans are settled periodically
- Preparing the key internal control reconciliation for assigned digital assets to the blockchain
- Preparing operational float reconciliations for the African fiat and digital assets as assigned.
- Maintaining a complete audit trail of all source documentation used to support the financial reporting on the shared Google drives.
- Ad hoc project work i.e. assisting with building systems, improving process efficiencies, creating automation and implementing internal controls.
- Ensuring all in-country license requirements are met and the relevant reporting is submitted in time.
- Assisting the tax team with indirect tax (VAT, WHT) queries and implementing the transfer pricing policy as needed
- Liaise with the auditors for your entities.
- Source the supporting documents for audits.
- BComm graduate with 1-3 years commercial experience OR a CA with 1-2 years commercial experience
- Experience in fintech would be preferred, but this is not a key requirement
- Must be at an advanced level Excel / Google Sheets.
- System experience with relevant ERP systems
- Ideally Cape Town based with the ability to work remotely.
- Candidates must have reliable internet connection and a conducive work from home set-up.
- Experience with cryptocurrencies, digital assets or financial assets.
- Special tools / system experience Sage X3 and / or Kissflow.
- Experience working in a fast moving and ever-evolving environment.
