The Role
We are looking for a Finance Director to oversee the management of our Finance, Accounting, Tax, Audit, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Invoicing, Reporting, Budgeting, Policies & Controls. The ideal candidate will have experience leading a finance function in a rapidly growing startup that operates in multiple currencies, ideally with experience across Africa.

This role reports directly to the VP, Operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a world class finance team, who deeply understand our business, own our reporting, and play a critical role driving the strategy and operations
- Develop and oversee internal control guidelines, policies, and procedures for Accounting, Tax, Audit, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Invoicing, Reporting, and Budgeting
- Ensure compliance with relevant national requirements and professional standards
- Oversee monthly close and accounts payable for a group of companies in multiple currencies
- Prepare and present financial reports, risk analysis and financial models to a wide variety of audiences (e.g., both All Hands calls and potential investors)
- Work closely with the Commercial team on modeling and pricing.
- Work directly with the CEO to develop and update company valuations, manage cap-table, support due diligence for M&A transactions and support future fundraising processes
- Guide financial decisions company-wide by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
- Provide support to management, particularly in commercial and financial matters
- Derive and implement cash flow management and exchange exposure strategies across the group.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as Director or Controller of a high-growth start-up, preferably in the FinTech space
- 1-2 years experience / training at an international investment bank, consulting or accounting firm and comfort creating financial models with clean model etiquette.
- Knowledge of and experience in our key markets (e.g., Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda) is a requirement for this role
- Professional accounting or financial qualification
- Experience handling high volumes of transactions in different currencies, overseeing international operating entities (preferably regulated entities) and leading a team
- Experience dealing with multiple stakeholders (C-suite, Shareholders, Investors, Regulators, etc.)
- Prior experience with M&A a plus
- Nice to have: Prior experience with remote, distributed teams is a strong plus
