Finance Systems Capability Manager

This role will report to the Finance Executive and assume full responsibility for product costing for the entire business. The role will take responsibility for identifying improvements to the current methodology and ensure the SAP costing module serves as a crucial enabler for real time, accurate, and reliable information for planning and decision making.

Manages the Costing functionality within the Corporate Finance Structure by identifying, developing, and implementing costing systems, procedures, and controls, producing and maintaining standard costing models, assuming the responsibility of a SAP Super User on the finance and costing module and attending to the processes of review, reconciliations and creation and generation of various costing, stock variances and profitability reports to inform business planning and decision making over the medium to long term period.
  • IDENTIFYING AND ALIGNING COSTING METHODOLOGY TO ADDRESS KEY DELIVERABLES
1.1. Participating in meetings with the executive financial management to obtain clarification and understanding on the applications and responsibilities related to the key costing information system and management responsibilities and critical deliverables for SA Sugar.

1.2. Identifying the applicability of current costing systems, controls and procedures and undertaking comprehensive reviews to enable alignment or introduction of changes to ensure risks, accountability and accurate reporting is adequately addressed.

1.3. Planning costing management and reporting activities with due consideration given to timelines/ deadlines for submission of reports for various executive and functional meetings, statutory internal and external reporting and audits

1.4. Identifying challenges/ constraints impacting/ delaying deliverables and, informing and engaging with the Finance Executive on the application of options/ alternative measures to mitigate the risks
  • COSTING DEPARTMENTAL SUPERVISION AND CONTROL
2.1. Establishing job content in terms of key responsibilities and result indicators and overseeing the execution of the work programme in accordance with quality standards, key result indicators and timelines.

2.2 Participating in the selection process, perusing applications and short-listing candidates and, motivating for the selection of specific applicants based on outcomes from the interview employment equity objectives and/ or competency based assessment.

2.3 Defining skill gap and training needs and activating procedural sequences aimed at developing and capacitating individuals.

2.4 Addressing workplace conflict/ conduct through the initiation and co-ordination of consultative processes and implementation of specific disciplinary procedures.

2.5. Coaching and guiding personnel on the procedures, systems and methods, explaining business processes and, overseeing the execution and correcting deviations.

2.6 Giving effect to the organisation's talent management programme, identifying and motivating personnel participation in development programmes.

2.7 Identifying, consulting, setting and reviewing performance objectives and critical and key deliverables to identify performance gaps and accomplishments and proceed with the implementation of performance management corrective, monitoring and training processes to facilitate personnel improvement.
  • SAP/ FINANCE COSTING SUPER USER
3.1. Filtering user requests and transferring/ routing/ copying requests and responses to the relevant management structures and users.

3.2. Identifying and formulating inputs into technical specification documentation to modify or enhance current systems.

3.3. Analysing and understanding the integrated and independent business processes and their linkages and effects on costing as an integral business tool.

3.4. Serving as a primary contact of communication to the SAP/ Finance module with internal and external processes and functions.

3.5. Gathering and maintaining process change documentation to serve as a reference to specific decisions and actions.

3.6. Identifying internal SAP capabilities and developing training content to improve user capabilities and applications.
  • COSTING SCHEDULES/ REPORTS AND REVIEW/ RECONCILIATIONS
4.1 Undertaking product costing for the entire business (Sugar and Animal Feeds) referring to a range of sources to obtain, analyse, interpret and compute financial costing information

4.2 Undertaking the reconciliation of standard costing to SAP to produce variances for further analyses, investigations and conclusions.

4.3 Engaging with the MSD/ Voermol Sales Teams and making available information to inform customer discounts/ new product profitability.

4.4 Creating and producing monthly product/ customer profitability reports.

4.5 Undertaking an analysis of a range of transactional entries/ recordings to enable compilation of the monthly stock/ production reconciliation.

4.6 Conducting a review of the monthly/ annual sales declaration to SASA referring to a range of information sources to collate, analyse and conclude on the accuracy of the content.

4.7 Undertaking a monthly review of the global stock reconciliation and following up the Centres on variances.

4.8 Conducting a review of the MCV/ STV reconciliation and proceeding with investigating or following up on variances.

4.9 Conducing monthly reviews of the SAP revaluation calculations and formulate explanatory notes/ reasons for adjustments/ changes.

4.10 Coordinating the industry stock through liaison and engagement with auditors and inventory teams.
  • SAP COSTING MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER
5.1 Developing and maintaining standard costing models for budgeting and forecasting.

5.2 Scheduling and conducting training on the SAP Costing module to users and preparing and circulating guidelines to improve user capabilities.

5.3 Evaluating post training user performance to provide coaching/ support.
  • ADMINISTRATION AND MEETINGS
6.1 Consolidating statistical and other activity related information and preparing reports on progress or, performance and results for submission to the Finance Executive within specified reporting timeframes.

6.2 Liaising with internal audit and proceeding with following up on outstanding reports and related information.

6.3 Preparing and attending Finance Committee, Sub Committee and Working Group meetings and presenting, explaining, and elaborating on concepts, results and processes.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Post Graduate Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Financial Management.
  • At least 8-10 years SAP financial management experience or SAP Consulting experience on Finance modules for large Corporate structure
  • Computer skills/literacy in MS Office Suite and specialised accounting software packages.
  • Proficient with SAP system particularly with the Finance (Fi) Module
