Key Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for functions in two main areas:
- Umbrella Fund financial reconciliations, sourcing data, calculating tax liability, completing and submitting tax and regulatory returns;
Assisting with the preparation of working papers, supporting documentation and financial statements for the external audit of the Discovery Life Umbrella Pension and Provident Funds.
- Management Company accounts and reconciliations and reporting, including but not limited to bank reconciliations and management, monthly reporting and detailed general ledger reconciliations, analytic review and understanding of processes.
Invoice and supplier management process and supplier liaison.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Umbrella Fund Product Accounts:
- Monthly fund account reconciliations and analytic reviews
- Assisting with the preparation of working papers, supporting documentation and financial statements for the external audit of the Discovery Umbrella Funds for the interim and final year end audits
- S ourcing data, calculating tax liability, completing and submitting tax and regulatory returns;
- The payment of tax liability and reconciliation to general ledger
- P roviding support and analysis on tax and regulation related queries
- Quarterly regulatory reporting
- Internal audit support
- FSCA account balance monitoring
- Bank reconciliation preparation and analytical reviews
- Bank account monitoring
- Asset allocation preparation and reporting
- Projects relating to commission payments and reconciliations.
- Management Company accounts:
- Monthly management account preparation, detailed general ledger reconciliation and reporting
- Discovery Employee Benefits Account Management reconciliation function and balancing to the general ledger and bank accounts
- Invoice and supplier management process and supplier liaison
- Board report information gathering
- Analytical review and deep understanding of processes
- Actual vs budget comparisons and variance explanations. Assisting for forecasts
- Assistance in budget preparation and compilation.
- Bank reconciliation preparation and analytical reviews
- Bank account monitoring
- Integrity, honesty and reliability
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative
- Ability to plan and control work-flow to effectively manage the teams deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong administrative, tax and accounting knowledge
- Strong Employee Benefits knowledge
- Ability to apply knowledge in a practical setting
- Strong numerical and verbal reasoning skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Problem solving
- BCom or equivalent tertiary qualification (Finance, Tax and Accounting modules would be advantageous)
- Experience in the Financial Services and Retirement Funds industry with specific exposure to dealing with financial, regulatory and tax administration
- Knowledge of Pay-As-You-Earn
- Knowledge of Employee Benefits (Retirement Schemes & Group Risk schemes), Discovery in-house products and protocols (advantageous)
- Advanced Computer Literacy (MS Excel and Compass)
- Knowledge of SAGE
