The position reports to the Profitability Analyst.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and continually improve analytical capabilities, working through complex business issues, in order to provide actionable reporting that enables business decisions and to meet financial and strategic commitments.
- Continually develop and refine the P&L logic to reflect current business operations and provide the most accurate profitability analysis at a category, supplier, customer and product level.
- Turn business questions into functional analysis understand the business as well as the data behind the analysis;
- Assess financial impact in terms of sales, profitability, and other performance metrics.
- Produce monthly management reports comparing business performance to business plans and unpacking variances.
- Design and perform complex, multi-variable analyses by applying appropriate statistical methodologies to determine resolutions that clarify and address operational and business concerns
- Evaluate data to make recommendations for continued or new business direction
- Generate results using new or existing tools
- Consider multiple scenarios and points of view and potential outcomes for recommending actions based on analysis
- Communicate and share recommendations and relevant information, and iterating analyses based on different business scenarios or assumptions.
- Provide ongoing optimization, revenue opportunities, lost-opportunity analysis that the retail and marketplace teams can act on to improve metrics and increase sales/revenue.
- Perform analyses to provide insights into areas of risk and opportunity to influence pricing strategies and decisions.
- Seek out opportunities for automation through review and redesign of existing processes
- Automate existing processes, drive technological improvements and build future fit efficiencies around cost optimization.
- Provide reporting monthly on the key profitability drivers of the business and make recommendations for driving efficiencies
- Assist and be actively involved in the annual Takealot.com Retail budgeting process
- Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships with key business partners to ensure alignment on strategies to maximize financial results
- Strong analytical skills with solid foundation in statistical techniques.
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of the marketing, accounting, decision support models, operations, and financial levers that drive profit, loss and customer experience.
- Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
- Ability to translate business needs and goals into analytic approach and response
- Deep experience with data mining, data analytics, predictive modeling, and advanced modeling techniques
- Ability to work independently, productively, proactively and follow through on all responsibilities to bring projects to a successful conclusion.
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with associates from across the business.
- Must be solution oriented with a thirst to learn and ability to think logically through multi-faceted problems.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multiple projects that will impact the business at various levels
- Advanced in Excel, Looker, TM1 and database extraction
- CIMA / CA(SA) (preferred)
- 3+ years related post qualification experience is required
- Experience in retail preferable
- SQL experience (data extraction)
- Experience with BI tools (Qlik / Power BI / Looker)
