Physical Security Department
The Security Department for Vantage Data Centers is very hands on. In most cases, we specify, purchase, configure and maintain all physical security networking, software, and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes so that we can make informed purchase decisions. We are always looking for ways to strike the best balance between technology, performance, and cost. Vantage Global Physical & Informational Security Department also participates in designing each of our new data center buildings security infrastructure. Position Overview
Our Physical Security team is looking for a forward-thinking, results-oriented, innovative Manager, Physical Security with the ability to develop, complete and oversee data center (DC) security operations and programs for our new campus in Cape Town, South Africa. As the Manager, Physical Security, you will be expected to create and verify compliance with security procedures, training, standards, and policies, while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of physical security at our facilities. You will champion new initiatives and oversee planning processes and delegations across multiple business partner teams. You will chip in and help drive the development of long-term corporate strategy and goals. You will partner with the Design and Engineering Team, Site Operations, and Construction Managers.
Essential Job Functions
- Carry out Vantage Physical Security Global Procedures that encompasses Datacenter Physical Security, including design, construction, testing, daily operation, and maintenance.
- Implement a complete staffing plan that covers hiring, training, oversight, and compliance
- Lead a multi-site team of Supervisors and Security Officers.
- Lead all aspects of customer safety requirements across all campuses, including Physical Security interface.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local police, security agencies and government departments to enhance delivery of safety and security
- Handle Physical Security vendors for staffing, supervision, and oversight
- Analyze, plan, assess and run personal safety & security for executive level visits into the region; including but not limited to transit security from airport to hotels / sites, hotel assessment and approval, risk analysis based on executive business programmes
- Collaborate with internal and external teams for design and construction at each datacenter campus. Team with Operations to ensure compliance with all customer requirements.
- Work with finance and construction to ensure continual cost efficiencies across multiple sites. You will develop and maintain metrics that track effectiveness and improvements in your department in the areas of builds and budgets (both O&M/CAPEX).
- Coordinate with Vantage Construction & Site Operations for all daily activities to ensure a safe and secure environment for employees and customers.
- Create a training program for security staff, as well as internal employees and customers (as required).
- Examine all areas of department performance by working with Performance Improvement/Optimization team.
- Continually set increased performance goals by looking at industry best practices and creating an internal improvement program
- Develop standards and a program for employee and contractor background checks and lead the program
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field; 8 years dynamically responsible experience, in leading large, global security programs may be substituted in lieu of a degree
- Police or military experience preferred
- Validated leadership skills and strong intuition for business
- Data Center security operations experience
- Experience and knowledge of secure rooms, physical security requirements, CCTV, multi-factor authentication, and biometrics.
- Experience & participation in applicable areas and related policies for safety and BCDR
- Hands on experience with background checks and badging requirements
- Experience creating and implementing global standards for security
- Must have a multi-disciplinary security background with knowledge in several areas including developing and implementing layered security architecture; risk and vulnerability assessments, compliance to implement information security related standards and initiatives
- Working knowledge of system auditing concepts including regular reporting for compliance, the efficiency of security systems (Lenel, cameras, door alarms, badge readers)
- Must have strong organization awareness and result oriented approach to deliver prompt, efficient, quality service to our customers and business partners
- Prior leadership experience with a concentration on physical security
- Ownership and program management of technology security solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple contending priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Travel is expected to be 25% (domestic and international), but may increase over time as the business evolves
