Junior Fund Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a detail-oriented Junior Fund Accountant to join a dynamic finance team within a leading Africa-focused fund manager. This role offers the chance to support in managing and maintaining the financial records of investment funds, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

What You'll Do

As a Junior Fund Accountant, your role will be pivotal in supporting the Fund Accountant in managing and maintaining the financial records of investment funds.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements for various funds, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts related to fund accounting activities.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the calculation of Net Asset Value (NAV) for funds on a periodic basis.
  • Support in the audit process by providing necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
  • Ensure all fund-related transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external parties, such as custodians and fund managers, to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of financial data by performing regular checks and reconciliations.
  • Contribute to process improvements within the fund accounting function.
  • Stay updated with changes in financial regulations and industry trends that may affect fund accounting practices.
What You Bring

The ideal Junior Fund Accountant will bring a strong academic background in Accounting or Finance along with completion of SAIPA Articles.
  • Completion of SAIPA Articles is mandatory, or similar.
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field with a stellar Academic record.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably within the investment management industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with fund accounting software and financial systems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
