Garden foreman is required to perform the tasks necessary to provide the effective leadership and training of crew members and the best landscape maintenance service possible for the client in an effective and professional manner.
Job requirements:
- Eleven to fifteen years gardening experience
- Fulfil all requirements of a Novice, Gardener & Advanced Gardener’s job description
- Able to read, write and speak English and/or Afrikaans.
- Have a valid driver’s license, an insurable driving record, and qualify to drive company vehicles.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and supervise two to five employees and be able to set priorities.
- Demonstrate ability to train and delegate.
- Familiar with company’s maintenance program and guidelines.
- Completed training for the application of chemicals.
- The foreman must know and be able to use the following techniques: Training, Maintenance Techniques
- Know how to work with a Chain Saw
- Drive a Truck with a Trailer
- Basic Troubleshooting on Power Equipment
- Multi-tester
- Wire Tracer
- Ground Fault Locator
- Measuring Wheel
- Irrigation controller programming.
- Recognising and addressing component problems.
- Recognising and documenting potential hazards.
- Recognising drainage deficiencies and problem soil.
- Horticultural Practices
- Able to identify by common and botanical name 150 common plants (bedding flowers, ground cover, shrubs/perennials, trees, and palms).
- Aesthetic pruning.
- Obtain a Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC).
- Able to identify 30 frequently seen weeds.
- Able to identify 30 frequently seen pests.
- Calibrating fertilizer application equipment.
- Basic elements of fertilizer.
Job responsibilities:
- Be able to manage and supervise assigned crew members.
- Report any un-resolved problems to Supervisor.
- Train crew members how to complete job within established time frame.
- Plan and organise work for crew members on job sites.
- Initiate and complete all required paperwork within established time frame.
- Interface with client when necessary.
- Enforce all safety policies and procedures
- Know how to discipline a crew member for justifiable reasons and initiate proper written warnings where applicable.
- Set up truck daily with all supplies and equipment needed to complete the day’s work.
- Maintain equipment in good operating condition.
- Completely understand the company’s Maintenance Program and Guidelines.
- Be certified in CPR and First Aid.
- Become a Certified Landscape Technician/Maintenance (CLT/M) and Certified Landscape Technician/Irrigation (CLT/I).
- Attain Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC).
- Develop and maintain a highly motivated crew.
- Encourage the advancement of crew members within training program.
- Properly complete and process time-cards/attendance smses within required time frame.
- Properly complete, process and communicate all work authorisations.
- Manage assigned projects practising effective and efficient water management.
