Job Purpose:
To manage and control the production of samples using expert knowledge of handling and sewing of woven, synthetic and knit fabric.
Key Duties
- Make up pattern for new specifications & styles and send to supplier for production of blades
- Time study and line balancing done at time of sample make up
- Identification of cutting blades – description with pictures on spreadsheet
- Plan and execute make-up of Samples, spec and patterns
- Inspect quality of samples and advise on corrective actions where required
- Manage and influence the correct spreading, placing of patterns, marking and cutting of pieces in accordance with the specific requirements of the relevant fabric.
- Study and develop a clear understanding of tech packs and communicate relevant details to the sample team effectively.
- People Management:
- Manage any employee relations issues which may arise, including the counselling, discipline and grievance processes as well as performance management within the framework of applicable labour legislation and company policies
- Training and development if sampling team
Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Multiskilled machinist with well-developed skills on a variety of machines (including high post, double needle, etc. as well as basic maintenance, operating settings, tensions, etc.)
- Excellent sewing skills including handling of various fabric types; both bonded and unbonded
- A flexible and creative approach to new ideas and simplifying construction
- Thorough knowledge of production methods and operation breakdown
- A keen interest in the design and basic makeup of versatile products and understanding of design methods
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate ideas clearly
- Good listening skills and comprehension
- Basic knowledge of pattern making, grading and construction
