Location:
This role will be based in one of the Genesis AFRICA Hubs in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi, Lagos, Abidjan, or Addis Ababa.
Practice Area Description:
The Health Practice to which this position belongs focuses on improving the health and well-being of Africans through research, monitoring, evaluation, behavioural sciences, strengthening health systems, and health economics and financing. Please note that Genesis Analytics does not implement direct service delivery programs.
Role Description:
Genesis seeks an Operations Manager (Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation) to support service line leadership in ensuring that all projects are well-resourced and deliver quality results on time. The Operations Manager will facilitate an enabling environment for project success by effectively implementing firm and practice business processes.
Key Requirements & Role Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Conduct regular meetings with project managers/directors within the RME service line to track project status and maintain an updated tracker.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure complete and up-to-date project documentation within the RME service line.
- Maintain the health practice project tracking tool, including monthly updates, project capability statements, and web descriptions on the finance system and Health sheets tabs.
- Assume the role of Project Manager for select projects within the service line.
Operations Support:
- Cultivate professional relationships with internal departments such as HR and Finance, external stakeholders and business consultants.
- Collaborate with other service line Operations Managers to disseminate company processes across the practice and ensure adherence by service line colleagues.
- Support service line leadership in utilization planning and analysis, optimizing staff allocation to projects using the staff project matrix.
- Liaise with hiring managers for recruitment plans and crucial hires within the service line, providing feedback to the Health People Champion through the health HR sub-committee.
- Assist with monthly meetings as needed, including agenda preparation, chairing, minute-taking, and ensuring timely completion of action points.
- Aid service line leads in preparing for quarterly reporting.
- Monthly meetings with other service line Operations Managers to discuss challenges, learnings, and updates to operations processes.
- Collaborate with other operations managers to develop and maintain practice Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Financial Management:
- Provide guidance and support to Project Managers in the service line on finance-related matters, ensuring compliance with company policies and processes.
- Offer guidance on the monthly reconciliation process and oversee completion of project budget templates for new projects by Project Managers.
- Support Project Managers in raising subcontractor expenses, purchase orders, and client invoicing when no Project Administrator is available.
Business Development:
- Collaborate with internal (General Group Services, Business Development Unit, Head of Commercial) and external stakeholders (key partners and clients).
- Provide guidance to service line staff on the bid management process and available tools.
- Act as Bid Manager for specific strategic opportunities within the service line, leading the process from kick-off to post-mortem, managing the bid work plan, recruitment, technical and financial proposal coordination, and budget development.
- Facilitate post-mortem and bid-dissemination sessions to enhance the bid management process.
Technical Project Work:
- Based on technical qualifications and experience, undertake technical research, monitoring, and evaluation work on specific opportunities and projects.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Personal Competencies:
- Preferred management experience in consulting organizations within the health sector.
- Degree in management or a related field.
- 5 to 10 years of demonstrable operational management experience in a similar role (consulting experience preferred).
- Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a solution-driven and positive attitude.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in diverse and challenging environments.
- Effective prioritization and multitasking skills under tight deadlines.
