Group Regulatory Specialist at Sasfin Bank

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Group Regulatory Specialist will be responsible for the technical regulatory requirements of the Group. The role is one for an individual who can work across multi-disciplinary areas of the Group to provide strategic technical regulatory dissemination and insight as a trusted and reliable partner to business and ensure compliance with SARB regulatory reporting requirements for the Group

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Disseminate new SARB regulations and possible impact on key regulatory ratios and risk data requirements. Perform the QIS (Quantitative Impact Study) as and when required by the SARB for new regulatory changes
  • Off the back of the dissemination, engage with key stakeholders to ensure that requirements are understood and action plans to meet the requirements within the effective dates from SARB
  • Provide input, support and guidance for the preparation of the Pillar 3 report, ICAAP/ILAAP and Statutory Financial Statements (where necessary) in compliance with all the relevant SARB regulatory requirements (will be the owner of any specialist regulatory requirements into these reports)
  • Prepare and/review memorandums, opinions and technical papers for internal purposes, GRCMC/GACC/Board submission and/or internal/external audit support as required
  • Engage and collaborate with various finance functions (including accounting, tax and regulatory reporting), risk owners and business teams to ensure that new transactions, deals, products and structures etc are appropriately documented, regulatory impacts assessed, and compliance requirements are met
  • Review return templates for technical regulatory compliance
  • Initiates and assists in the development of key regulatory reporting policies and standard operating procedures
  • Ensures that the policies and procedures are approved by the relevant governance committees
  • Identifies and assists with training and educational needs regarding regulatory compliance and assists with preparing and or review of technical regulatory training and workshops
  • Prepare and/review communications to the SARB as and when required e.g. on new directives
  • Liaise with the internal and external auditors on technical regulatory related matters
Assist internal and external auditors with information requests and queries at the year-end audit related to technical regulatory matters
  • Provide technical regulatory input into the financial reporting system
  • Provide technical regulatory input into the forecasting of capital and liquidity ratios
  • Ensures compliance with industry regulatory standards:
  • Keeping up to date with latest developments in regulatory (eg BASEL regulatory requirements) and assess the impact on the Group and ensure compliance
  • Assist with the implementation of new regulatory requirements issued that affects the group
  • Support the regulatory reporting team in monitoring and reporting regulatory compliance risks for the Group
  • Ensure compliance of new accounts with regulatory requirements at FDA (Financial Design Authority)
  • Represent Sasfin at industry bodies where regulatory reporting requirements are discussed
  • Ad-hoc duties and projects as and when assigned
Staff Responsibilities

No direct reports. Coaching and training of team members within the wider Group Finance team particularly the regulatory reporting team and financial controllers. SKILLS/PERSONAL

Attributes Required
  • BCom Post Grad minimum requirement with at least 5-10 years banking experience in a specialist regulatory reporting role/function
  • Specialist knowledge of regulatory requirements (BASEL and local) and the practical application thereof is essential
  • Experience with engaging SARB
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Goal orientated and good project and time management skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure, multi-task and adhere to deadlines
  • Pro-active. Takes initiative. Self-starter
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills - team player

REMUNERATION

CTC Market-related salary, based on qualification and experience.
