About The Job
The CSIR has a vacancy for Handyman in the Conferencing and Accommodation Portfolio. The incumbent will identify, plan and perform or oversee building maintenance tasks such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, basic electrical and any general maintenance work. This position is based in Pretoria.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify building maintenance requirements (furniture, fittings and facilities) in the CA Facilities (ICC, Knowledge Commons, Newtons and Entabeni) and perform general building maintenance where possible or log calls and ensure maintenance work is carried out to the required standard.
- Arrange regular maintenance of equipment, that is, kitchen equipment, golf carts, firefighting equipment.
- Proactively identify maintenance, monitor condition of all general equipment and organize maintenance thereof.
- Perform small carpentry repairs such as painting, doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and other parts of the building.
- Perform proactive maintenance on electrical equipment including changing light bulbs and cleaning of lights, electrical cords etc.
- Ensure air conditioning, refrigeration is in good working order and serviced and fixed as necessary.
- Perform condition assessment of the venues before and after events and list defects.
- Log maintenance calls for complex tasks and follow up on calls and report on progress.
- Ordering, receiving of basic maintenance stock.
- Performing monthly stock takes on maintenance stock.
- A Matric certificate, relevant trade certificate/s and with at least three proven years experience as a handyman.
- Experience in working with hardware and electrical equipment.
- Driver licence, Code 8 or 10

- All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
