The successful incumbents job purpose will be to implement a coaching strategy that guides athletes, teams and the club to develop their skills, teamwork, and overall performance. The incumbent will plan, organise and deliver high-quality coaching sessions, all training, competitions and leagues programmes and activities, while fostering a positive and motivating environment for athletes at all levels within TuksRugby. Furthermore, the incumbent will develop and follow the long-term athlete development pathway to ensure young talent is identified and nurtured utilising available resources of the TuksSport programmes.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Develop and ensure the optimal functioning and execution of TuksSport coaching philosophy as it relates to TuksRugby.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching strategy that is aligned with the clubs, team's and/or individuals performance plans, periodisation, goals and objectives.
- Create and execute effective training programmes to enhance the athletes performance, including but not limited to developing technical and tactical skills.
- Design and coordinate the Implementation of coaching best practices and protocols as agreed upon with the team of coaches and other technical personnel within TuksRugby, for the individuals within the high-performance squads, based on their specific positions, disciplines and needs.
- Develop, influence and maintain relationships with external, provincial and national coaches and federations in order to contribute and influence the sport through best practices, shared knowledge and creating opportunities for athlete and coach development pathways
- Be responsible for full coaching duties of UP-Tuks 1 (Men) team for varsity and local league competitions and matches.
- Bachelors Degree or National Diploma with a minimum of 5 years experience in the following area:
- Sport Specific coaching at a club/tertiary or provincial or national level
- A minimum of 8 years experience in the following area:
- Sport Specific coaching at a club/tertiary or provincial or national level
- World Rugby Level 2 Coaching Certificate
- Registered as a coach with a sport code specific union
- Valid drivers licence
- BokSmart Accreditation;
- Criminal record certificate;
- Sexual offenders clearance certificate;
- Child offender clearance certificate.
- Sport specific knowledge;
- Coaching principles and methodologies;
- Good communication skills (verbal and written);
- Sports science and training principles;
- Tactical/game analysis and opponent assessment;
- Injury prevention and management;
- Rules, regulations and laws around the sport and specific competitions;

- Full-time position
- Will be required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Variable, outdoor and indoor sporting facilities both onsite and offsite, and some office based
- Ability to carry equipment, walk to different venues (including hills or stairs), and sufficiently demonstrate techniques of the specified sport.
- Will be required to ensure compliance and/or accreditation with any regulatory bodies or affiliations as required to perform duties or as requested by the line-manger or TuksSport
- Reporting to Head of Programme TuksRugby.
The incumbent will be appointment on a fixed-term contract with the necessary performance clauses clearly stipulated.
