What will be required for the role?
The role will involve working with a team of data engineers, data analysts and report writers to deliver the data strategy to ensure optimal business value, discovering insights hidden in large amounts of data, and facilitating decision-making to deliver on business objectives and improved customer experience.
What will you do?
Key Accountabilities
- Own data integrity and conformity to meet business requirements, from data ingestion to data consumption and reporting
- Engage with a range of stakeholders (including compliance, finance, product, investments, marketing) to understand the needs and then use this information to scope the requirements for various data sources to deliver on these
- Bridge the gap between business owner requirements and technical delivery teams (vendor selection and architecture input and guidance)
- Deliver the enterprise data warehouse foundation for Sanlam Private Wealth through a thorough understanding of business data requirements and own data subject matter expertise
- Oversee data needs on projects, BAU data requirements and future trends through data science expertise. As head of the area, the role will provide technical mentoring and coaching for other team members

- Own overall accountability for data quality
- Ensure that highlighted data quality issues are promptly and adequately remediated and prevented in future
- Implement data quality dashboards and metrics, and ensure implementation of all data-related governance, audit and risk actions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project and business stakeholders to develop an understanding of business strategy and objectives
- Provide leadership to teams regarding approach to data acquisition, data mining and overall responsibilities
- Design, develop and establish relevant frameworks, models and business practices to drive a data-centric approach to understanding current business problems and opportunities
- Take accountability for the approach and methodology for building and maintaining analytical tools to generate insights
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to analyse customer data requirements
- Oversee maintenance of data sets
- Ensure data analytics and design are communicated and understood by business stakeholders
- Establish and implement a quality framework and processes for data processes and deliverables of the team
- Provide insight for enhancing data processes to include information relevant for building analytic systems
- Perform people management function for a team of driven-data specialists
- Coach and mentor data specialists
- Relevant B-degree in Science, Business or Technology (NQF Level 7 qualification) within an appropriate field of study
- At least 10 years experience in the field of execution of technology data projects or data management
- 5 8 years experience in a senior management role
- Team leadership experience
- High degree of learning agility ability to adapt and adopt new technologies, including AI and data science
- Experience in data analytics and enterprise data warehouse development
- Experience in running large-scale projects with a strong data component
- Excellent written communication skills and very strong report-writing skills
- Ability to lead teams and provide mentorship
