Job Purpose
To manage and lead a team of professionals in providing independent assurance to the Nedbank Chief Internal Auditor (CIA); on the quality assurance and continuous improvement framework for Group Internal Audit (GIA); to ensure compliance to international standards for the professional practice of Internal Auditing within Nedbank.
Job Responsibilities
- Act as continuous improvement champion (CIC) for Nedbank.
- Develop annual Quality Assurance (QA) plan (Africa included) for team.
- Ensure QA staff deliver according to annual QA plan.
- Review policies and procedures relating to Group Internal Audit audit methodology and assess the application thereof .
- Manage process of external QA review.
- Develop and maintain policies and Charters required by the Banks Act, Companies Act and IIA standards and build on methodology to facilitate requirements, which are in line with IIA standards and international best practices and ensure QA staff improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Review Internal Audit Charter annually (Old Mutual and Nedbank), and ensure updates or adjustments are made to ensure compliance and risks are mitigated.
- Contribute to team effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and selection of senior staff.
- Contribute to a culture of transformation by participating in Nedbank culture building initiatives, business strategy, and CSI.
- Stay abreast of developments in field of expertise, ensuring personal and professional growth.
- Understand and embrace the Nedbank vision and values, leading by example.
- Contribute to the achievement of BEE and transformation targets.
- Provide independent feedback to the Chief Internal Auditor (CIA) on the quality assurance and continuous improvement framework, structures and processes of GIA.
- Define methodology, in line with Old Mutual requirements, to be used by GIA and give guidance and training and ensure quality application of these methodologies are measured to ensure business optimisation and to provide independent assurance.
- Manage performance of staff by implementing performance agreements to ensure a clear vision.
- Mentor and coach staff on identified performance gaps.
- Tailor development needs as identified through the project rating tool (for own staff) and identified during meetings and independent reviews (for Group Internal Audit) o ensure that GIA stays abreast in field of expertise and deliver on the expecations. Create an environment of teamwork by engaging with staff formally and informally, keeping staff informed and encouraging participation in decision making processes to motivate staff to perform and contribute to the success of Group Internal Audit.
- Provide a funnel for Old Mutual information.
- Understand GIA Exco needs.
- Assess needs of stakeholders and QA staff, Position solutions identified through review processes conducted by self and QA staff to GIA Exco, Give comment on regulatory papers.
- Provide input into the compilation of budget for cost centre, in line with Finance requirements, based on planned projects and deliverables, to ensure proper financing of the function.
- Manage and control budget for cost centre. Ensure that training material that is drafted and presented by self and Quality Assurance (QA) staff to Group Internal Audit (GIA) staff are aligned to Old Mutual standards and delivered according to the annual QA plan.
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Bachelor of Commerce: Internal Auditing , Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Essential Certifications
- Internal Quality Assessment/Validation certification
Minimum Experience Level
10 years experience in Internal or External Audit, including people management
