Job Description
Our client is seeking an HOD Environmental Manager whose purpose will be to oversee the environmental performance of the company by ensuring that mining operations comply with and adhere to environmental regulations and good practices.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement the Environmental plan, leading the department in achieving environmental targets.
Ensure compliance with local environmental laws and regulations related to surface mining.
Engage with relevant government authorities to understand and apply environmental regulations.
Establish internal audits, analyze, and report on environmental performance.
Build awareness and provide necessary training to employees, contractors, and local communities.
Facilitate resolution of environmental issues and grievances across all departments.
Provide inputs for the corporate sustainability report.
Provide consultants with necessary instructions and permits for project execution.
Assist consultants in resolving arising problems.
Monitor costs to achieve efficiencies and reduce waste, identifying cost reduction opportunities.
Maintain financial documentation for accurate record-keeping and future requirements.
Escalate potential risks leading to increased costs or financial losses.
Collaborate with colleagues, build relationships, and ensure effective communication.
Coordinate, monitor, and supervise the performance of direct reports.
Implement performance contracts and conduct performance reviews.
Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and standards.
Resolve conflicts and respond to complaints or concerns.
Support skills development and transfer initiatives.
Verify team members' competence to deliver job outputs within specified timelines.
Provide feedback for reports.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
5 years relevant experience.
Mining and Siding experience is advantageous.
Diploma / Degree in Environmental management.
SACNASP.
Environmental management and systems.
Legal and regulatory environment requirements.
Mining environment Biodiversity and ecosystems.
Computer literacy.
Communication skills.
