Our client, a rapidly growing entity that develops, designs, assembles and operates solar power systems as ground mount and rooftop installations, has over 300MW of renewable energy projects across the world. They are looking for a highly detail-orientated Head of Engineering to join their team in Cape Town.

Having worked in the renewable space for over 10 years, your knowledge of solar PV design and engineering is ingrained. You are comfortable with the idea of leading the design, development, and implementation process of innovative solar solutions for our client.

Education Requirements
  • Masters degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Professionally registered with ECSA
Experience Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in the solar PV space
  • Embedded knowledge of solar PV system design and simulation software (eg. PVsyst)
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of solar PV systems, including layout design, component selection, and electrical wiring diagrams such as PV layouts, SLDs for PV, reticulation, inverter stations, and substations
  • Perform yield calculations, optimise system performance, and calculate cable sizes and fault levels
  • Conduct advanced calculations and simulations to ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications
  • Oversee and manage the installation and commissioning of solar PV systems
  • Review EPC and PPA contracts
  • Assist with grid connection applications
  • Support the sales team with proposal preparation
  • Monitor quality during the construction and commissioning phases
  • Provide technical support to Projects and O&M Teams as required
  • Participate in technical meetings throughout project development, procurement, construction, and operations phases
  • Interface with stakeholders on technical matters and manage external consultants and contractors
  • Provide technical assistance to clients and internal teams as needed
  • Mentor and train junior engineers
