The role in a nutshell:

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be capable of leading in the oversight of Lunos Anti-Financial Crime framework. Reporting to the Global Head of Compliance, you will be an integral member of the Compliance team, working with all areas of the global business to help ensure that Luno maintains a robust and responsible compliance programme. Most importantly, you will be passionate about compliance, with a drive to contribute to and enhance the strong compliance culture across the organisation.

Your mission will be:

• Develop and maintain Group AFC processes, procedures and guidelines to implement the required policies and standards established at a Group and local level
• Conduct Customer screening for Sanctions, PEPs and Adverse Media, utilising lists and parameters agreed with 2LoD; ensure system calibration and testing are in place to ensure the effective operation of screening tools; conduct screening alert investigations in accordance with relevant minimum standards
• Implement Transaction Monitoring, including identification of TM risk typologies, TM scenario development, TM execution (incorporating detection, investigation, case management and preparation of SARs/STRs for external reporting as appropriate); ensure system calibration/testing in place to ensure effective operation of monitoring tools
• Ensure mechanisms are in place to facilitate internal Unusual Activity Reporting
• Establish effective Fraud risk controls to mitigate the abuse of Lunos platform for fraud related activity and build effective mechanisms to prevent the targeting of customers for fraud
• Implement Market Surveillance controls to mitigate the risk of Lunos platform being exploited by bad actors to manipulate the market for personal gain
• Ensure processes are supported by adequate Quality Control processes to ensure procedures are being followed
• Develop and produce reporting and MI to demonstrate effectiveness of controls in mitigating AFC risks and meeting the defined Risk Appetite for in-scope activities

In your first six months, you will

• Immerse yourself in Luno, ensuring you have a deep understanding of our business and our customers
• Develop strong relationships across the Luno team, and with key third parties
• Become a trusted expert in all aspects of Lunos AML/CFT compliance programme, always with an eye to continuous improvement

A little about you:

• In-depth knowledge of, and a passion for, AML/CFT compliance
• Previous experience of drafting and maintaining Policies
• A pragmatic and responsible approach to compliance with regulatory obligations
• The ability to collaborate across geographies, functional areas and competencies
• Exceptional communication skills
• A predisposition for taking ownership and consistently delivering excellence
• A desire for continuous learning, with the ability to quickly adapt to an ever-changing environment
• Experience in the cryptocurrency industry (desirable, but not essential)
