Head of Financial Accounting, Finance Department

Diplomat South Africa is recruiting for the role of Head of Financial Acccounting to be based in Gauteng. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilites

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Financial Accounting to oversee and manage critical financial functions within our organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering key outcomes in balance sheet management, financial reporting, credit control, accounts payable, internal controls, inventory management, audit, tax, treasury, and working capital. The incumbent is required to demonstrate proven experience in financial leadership roles with a focus on accounting and finance functions. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and industry best practices. Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly balance sheets reconciliations Monitor and analyze financial data to provide insights for decision-making.
  • Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation of comprehensive financial reports, including but not limited to, group reporting and annual financial statements Responsible for handling any queries related to the financial reporting in a timely manner. Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant financial information and collate into a report highlighting key insights to the CFO
  • Credit Control: Implement and manage effective credit control processes. Evaluate and mitigate credit risks, ensuring optimal cash flow. Maintain relevant SOP and ensure that there is appropriate awareness by key stakeholders in the process
  • Accounts Payable: Oversee accounts payable processes to ensure timely payments. Streamline vendor management and payment procedures.
  • Internal Controls: Develop and maintain robust internal control mechanisms. Conduct periodic audits to ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures. Ensure that SOPs in the finance division are relevant and aligned to current business processes
  • Inventory Management: Implement efficient inventory management systems ensuring that healthy stock days cover is maintained Optimize inventory levels to support operational needs.
  • Audit & Tax: Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors. Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage tax reporting.
  • Treasury: Manage cash flow and liquidity to support day-to-day operations. Maintain a rolling 3 month cash flow forecast Implement effective treasury strategies to optimize financial resources. Responsible for the relationship with the bank, ensuring that facility requirements are adhered to
  • Working Capital: Monitor and manage working capital requirements in line with targets Develop strategies to enhance working capital efficiency.
Position Requirements

CA (SA)

10 years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles.

Experience in the FMCG sector is highly desirable.

Leadership Skills

Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing finance team.

Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills.

Technology Proficiency

Proficient in the use of accounting software and financial management systems.

Excellent with SAP [specific tools or platforms relevant to the industry].

Communication And Collaboration

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.

Regulatory Compliance

In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in the financial domain (IFRS)

Experience managing relationships with regulatory bodies.

Problem-Solving And Decision-Making

Proven ability to analyze complex financial issues and provide strategic solutions.

Sound decision-making skills with a focus on achieving organizational objectives.

Project Management

Demonstrated experience in leading and managing financial projects from conception to completion. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Supply Chain Financial Oversight

Collaborate with teams to ensure accurate costing and financial implications are considered in inventory management.

Conduct regular cost-benefit analyses to identify opportunities for cost savings.

Credit Risk Management

Develop and implement effective credit risk management policies.

Collaborate with sales and finance teams to evaluate creditworthiness of customers and distributors based on a detailed SOP

Seasonal Demand Planning

Collaborate with operations and sales to develop financial plans for handling seasonal demand fluctuations.

Ensure working capital is optimized during peak demand periods.

Financial Compliance

Ensure compliance with financial regulations related to financial activities.

Implement controls to mitigate financial risks associated with distribution processes.

Technology Integration

Explore and recommend technology solutions to enhance financial efficiency in the department

Financial Reporting For Stakeholders

Generate comprehensive financial reports tailored for stakeholders and submit to Group in a timely manner

Present financial insights to senior management and provide recommendations for strategic decisions.

Team Leadership And Development

Lead and develop a high-performing financial accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, promoting professional growth.

Continuous Improvement

Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the financial accounting function.

Seek opportunities to enhance processes and systems for greater efficiency.
