Job Summary
We are seeking a HSSE Manager for Construction to help us ensure organisational compliance to relevant regulations, standards and international best practice. They will strive to optimise productivity and compliance on work sites by effective management of HSSE aspects in the workplace
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a project safety culture by acting as an icon of HSSE excellence. e.g. ensuring a culture of reporting, leading project site safety audits, initiating incident reports and participating in investigations
- Ensure a safe working environment for all project staff across all project sites
- Deliver and own the corporate HSSE system to ensure the business has appropriate and consistent approach to HSSE and associated assurance and reporting.
- Deliver and own project HSSE documentation (e.g. HSSE Management Plans), ensuring these are consistent with corporate requirements
- Ensure project team compliance with Corporate, Legal, and Regulator HSSE requirements (e.g. training and certification), including through improved understanding / awareness
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of any project specific HSSE management systems, including training, incident reporting, inspections, and audits
- Responsible for establishing, tracking, analysing, and reporting project HSSE metrics
- Support contracting and procurement processes, ensuring contractor compliance with all regulatory, corporate, and functional systems and policies, developing bridging elements where required
- Responsible for all matters relating to HSSE team staffing to manage scope through relevant phases, i.e. competency and resourcing
- Engage with stakeholders through meetings, presentations and campaigns as and when required
- Qualification: Post graduate Health and Safety qualification
- 10+ years experience in construction management health and safety related roles
- Experience in major renewable projects is preferred
- Advantageous to have an Environmental qualification and relevant Safety training in South Africa
- A strong technical foundation with a solid understanding of the full spectrum of major civil and electrical projects
- Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, laws and regulations for windfarm construction and operations in South Africa
- Ability to manage project strategy implementation while ensuring quality control and attention to HSSE details
- Extensive experience in the areas of hazard identification techniques (HIRA, HAZOPS, HAZIDs, Pre-start-up readiness reviews, etc.) in addition to contractor assurance and reporting skills
- Working knowledge of incident investigation processes, underpinned by strong analytical / root cause analysis skills
- Mature business judgment regarding people, project, and process-related issues
- Exceptional leadership, personnel management (including conflict resolution), and coaching / mentoring skills
- Track record of delivery in complex, challenging and preferably in remote environments
