Responsibilities
- Responsible to oversee and manage plant instrumentation, day to day plant instrumentation and process control troubleshooting and repairs on site, carry out scheduled process control instrumentation equipment calibration and testing to minimize plant downtime and maintain the plant integrity in compliance with OHS Act and the Group requirements.
- Supervise instrumentation contractors work on site in compliance with OHS Act requirement,
- Instrument technician maintains computer and paper documentation of all calibration and testing records.
- Mentor and oversee the training of the instrument learners as part of the workplace experience program.
- Responsibility for the design, specification and implementation of industrial electronics, instrumentation and control loops on capital projects including the commissioning thereof.
- Responsibility to troubleshoot electrical problems and manage electrical contractors on site.
- Responsibility to maintain plants Distributed Control System and keep updated DCS back-ups.
- Perform duties of a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) and ensure the safe handling and control over radioactive sources as promulgated in the Group IV Hazardous Substance Act, 1973.
- Communicate effectively at all organization levels and suppliers to arrange spares and equipment repairs and services.
- Prepare and manage instrumentation section expenditure to budget.
- Manage store stock holding for Instrument and DCS spares including monthly stock take and capture.
- Conduct inspections of site portable electrical equipment and maintain inspection records.
- Maintain plant radios and radio inspection records.
- Accountability for ISO9001/14001, Responsible Care and OHS Act within the sphere of responsibility.
- Must be prepared to be on standby and work overtime.
- Perform a range of site maintenance activities, either to support others or to achieve pre-established outcomes.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and systems for emergency repairs and carry out preventive maintenance inspections.
- Provide operational support services and sometimes act as first-line supervisor of a transactional operations area. Involves using existing systems and protocols.
- Supervise a team performing routine work.
- Design own monthly schedule and, if necessary, assign work to others in order to speed up office workflow and ensure high-priority tasks get done.

- National Diploma Engineering Light Current S4 / T3 / N6 (Instrumentation)
- Red seal trade test Instrumentation
- Must be computer literate with DCS or PLC experience
- 10 Years Chemical plant Instrumentation
- 5 Years Petrochemical Instrumentation
- Fault Finding and problem resolution (must be technically skilled to solve complex control system faults)
- Planning and execution (Accuracy with detail, efficiency, planning and organizing)
- Very good English communication skills (Verbal communication, listening and written communication)
