Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to ICU patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medication, and assisting with diagnostic tests.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective treatment plans are followed.
- Monitor patients' responses to treatment and report significant changes to the Registered Nurse or physician.
- Perform ICU nursing procedures like airway management, wound care, and preparing patients for surgeries or interventions.
- Use ICU equipment to monitor patients conditions, such as ventilators, ECG machines, and infusion pumps.
- Document clinical findings accurately and escalate any concerning trends.
- Ensure critical care equipment is functional and properly maintained.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure a sterile environment in the ICU.
- Practice proper hand hygiene, sterilization, and clinical waste disposal.
- Communicate effectively with patients' families, providing updates and offering emotional support.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualized care plans in collaboration with senior nursing staff.
- Participate in shift handovers for seamless care continuity.
- Provide mentorship to junior nurses or nursing assistants when necessary.
- Administer medications as prescribed and in compliance with ICU protocols.
- Ensure patient safety by following ICU policies, including patient identification and fall prevention.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Diploma in Nursing or equivalent qualification as an Enrolled Nurse.
- Registered with the relevant Nursing Council.
- 1-2 years of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in an ICU or critical care unit.
- Familiarity with ICU equipment, ventilators, and emergency protocols.
- Strong understanding of critical care nursing principles and practices.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure in emergencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and public holidays as part of a 24/7 ICU rotation.
- Physical ability to handle prolonged periods of standing, lifting, and moving patients or equipment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an advantage.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
