CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The purpose of the post is to provide an efficient and effective support service to the Department of Computing Sciences to enable academic staff members to function effectively.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Interact daily with students by assisting them with academic related problems.
- Clarify registration details with the Faculty Officer.
- Responsible for the administration of class lists, regular updating thereof and distribution thereof to lecturers.
- Responsible for updating of marks and calculation of final marks.
- Responsible for processing contracts and claims for student assistants as well as staff who have additional contracts. This includes monitoring of the relevant the budgets.
- Responsible for the management of summer and winter recess programs.
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to multi-task, manages time, and work under pressure.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information (e.g.: in order to channel queries appropriately).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (ITS, word processing, email, internet, spreadsheets, databases) as well as mathematical literacy.
- Ability to maintain a positive relationship with all members of staff, while remaining assertive when necessary.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good telephone etiquette
- Knowledge of financial principles
- Experience in managing budgets
In order to be considered for appointment to this post the candidate must possess Grade 12 or equivalent (e.g. technical qualification). 2-5 years relevant experience and/or sound experience in Higher Education Administration.
As an added advantage candidates must possess M+3 qualification in office management or related field.
A practical competency test involving word processing and spreadsheet skills will be administered for shortlisted candidates.
