Crewing Officer: Calamari Fishing

Purpose Of The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Fleet and HR Coordinator to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless coordination of fleet operations and human resources management for our Calamari Fishing Vessels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR, payroll, and operational logistics within the maritime or fishing industry. This opportunity is available within our Calamari Fishing division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the recruitment of vessel officers, crew, and relieving crew.
  • Manage documentation for new engagements (contracts, ID books, bank details, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with pre-sea requirements for crew (medical checks, seamens books).
  • Prepare crew lists for voyages and manage paperwork for payroll submission.
  • Monitor and manage certification renewals (Fire Fighting, First Aid, etc.).
  • Handle general HR functions including industrial relations and employee record-keeping.
  • Coordinate vessel operational requirements and manage related costs.
  • Maintain high standards of safety and efficiency on the quayside.
  • Liaise with industry bodies (SAMSA, Transnet, DFFE) as required.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture among all staff.
Required Qualifications And Experience
  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification.
  • Post-Matric qualification in HR or related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the fishing industry, with strong HR and payroll knowledge.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; SAP knowledge is beneficial.
