THE JOB AT A GLANCE:

As a Data scientist and management lead, you will leverage data to derive insights, build predictive models, and solve complex problems and drive competitive advantage for Tiger brands, while leading the data capability from a data quality and data science perspective. The role leads the data management capability as well as focuses on a portfolio of data/analytics projects, working across multi-disciplinary teams. From a data science perspective, you will be responsible for extracting insights and knowledge from data using various techniques including statistics, machine learning, and computer science for efficiency and continuous improvement . You will be expected to analyse large data-sets to uncover patterns, make predictions, and drive decision-making processes. You should be highly analytical with a knack for maths and statistics. You'll develop an in-depth understanding of business processes and translate business requirements to the data engineering team (to be built) in technical way. On the data management side, you will lead the data quality forum (data stewards & data owners) on the path of data advancement, data analytics and AI.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business stakeholders including senior leaders to identify business opportunities and provide data-driven insights for decision making, continuous improvement and to deliver impact on Business wide processes. .
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies from which to perform sophisticated data preparation, modelling, labelling, pattern analysis and recommendations.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization using insights derived from data analysis.
  • Lead and execute user friendly generative AI ,predictive models to forecast trends, behaviours and to develop analytics focused products.
  • Develop, plan and prioritise analytics projects for execution, weighing business and technical trade-offs as required.
  • Lead/Execute the development of analytics-focused products, using machine learning, natural language processing, and mathematical / statistical techniques to develop powerful outcome that delivers business value and impact
  • Undertake data collection, preprocessing and machine learning across Tiger Brands to predict and automate human behaviour.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science methodologies and tools.
  • Management of defining data quality expectations and provide ongoing tracking and monitoring of performance of data systems and models.
  • Use research and insights to drive cultural change and capability building within Tiger Brands.
  • Communicate and present analytical findings, results and reports to senior stakeholders, using data visualisation techniques.
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies from which to develop prototypes and proof of concepts
  • Support the development of the Data Strategy for the Tiger Brands Group.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud C++ and Python.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modelling concepts ,machine learning algorithms, predictive modelling , AI and other relevant technologies.
  • Analytical mind and business acumen.
  • Strong data management skills around data strategy and its related execution.
Skills
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels
  • Ability to translate business requirements into critical data dependencies and requirements.
  • Strategic thinking to creatively inform and drive decision making of stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology, Information Systems is essential.
  • +5 years with proven experience consistently leading and solving complex business and technology problems through applying sophisticated data science and management techniques within a fast-paced environment (essential).
  • Extensive experience applying machine learning, deep learning, data mining, modelling and mathematical and/or statistical concepts and methodology to support strategic business objectives.
  • Expertise in SQL, Python, R, Open-Source Machine learning tools and data science toolkits.
