Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As our Section Manager Engineering: in the following Sections at Kolomela Mine: Services, DSO and DMS Plant, Mining Maintenance as well as Contractors, some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Strategy
- Where work is being undertaken to identify new or changes to insourcing or outsourcing options, provide input as required.
- Collaborate with other Engineering sections to identify opportunities to improve the Technical, Commercial and People performance of the Business.
- Implement, monitor and manage the shift handover process and standby arrangements for the section.
- Leading the implementation of OM in the maintenance Section (including understanding of context for and goals of the OM, communicating these to all within the section, monitoring of tasks and providing feedback.)
- Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure best practice engineering processes are in place.
- All work and services are monitored closely to ensure compliance to the contract specifications by contractors and service providers and manage contractors to maximise their outputs in order to deliver projects within the timeframe.
- Assess the training needs of the employees and contractors against the defined skill requirements and develop and implement a training plan within your authority limits.
- Allocate resources (including across the section) to achieve the section plan both day to day and through the year.
- Monitor the activities of the contractors which involve other teams and appropriately intervene to address any cross-team issues.
- A sound relationship is established and maintained between Kumba personnel and contractors
- Build, manage and maintain healthy diverse workable internal relations and implement remedial actions where required.
- Build, manage and maintain healthy relations to assist in achievement of organizational goals.
- Liaise with stakeholders (Plant Maintenance, Plant Operations, Mining Operations and Maintenance & Services) to provide relevant and specialised support and input for operations and projects.
- Contribute to the development of the Department budget.
- Manage the sections expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
- Identify any opportunities for improved cost management and either address these, or raise them with your manager.
- Demonstrate behaviour in line with health, safety and environmental standards and with Company and Group values.
Qualifications
You will be required to have the following:
- Relevant Degree in Engineering
- GCC Mechanical/Electrical Mines & Works
- Up to 5 Years operational experience in Plant Maintenance; and Diagnostics
