Behaviour Engineering? WTF? [Fun fact: 1985 was the first recorded use of WTF.] Yes, but is it engineering? Well, its predictive, replicable, scalable and reliable close enough then. Behaviour Engineering is what we do. In Structured Partnership with our clients, we help them make their people more valuable. Weve been doing this since 1995 and are getting better at it.
If this interests you in any way, read on. Were always looking for good people to join our talent pool. What makes a good person for us? It starts with a sincere sense of purpose, of wanting to make a difference. People who do well with us are self-disciplined / accountable, can get stuff done, have a genuine affinity for people, have grit, authenticity, competence with numbers [this is after all still engineering] and integrity. You must be teachable if you already know everything, stay where you are.
Our chosen approach is facilitative in other words the art of assisting discovery. If youve facilitated before, youll know what we mean when we say that we requires people who are self-aware, listen more than they talk, know how to ask good questions, are self-aware, and emotionally intelligent. People who are confident without being arrogant. People who have resilience and grit, because even people who know that they need to change their behaviour are grumpy about having to change today. This work is not for the easily offended, but it is very rewarding, if rewarding is what floats your boat.
Passion is good for us. What youre passionate about isnt that important, just that you have passion and energy, and can articulate this. Hmm on second thoughts, maybe a caveat here. If youre an anti-vaxxer, a flat-earther, or think that Trump was a great Pres, dont apply. We need logical, critical thinkers.
While we are serious about what we do, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. If you cant laugh at yourself, click out now. As cliche as it sounds, being a team player is vital. This is not a motherhood requirement our site teams operate semi-autonomously, so you will have to play well with others. No I-specialists. We work on site with our clients, wherever in or out of the country they may be. Youll probably be away from your blankie and your budgie during the week, most weeks. If we get work out of the country, you can probably take your blankie with you, but the budgie will have to stay here.
A final, and important, point you ain't gonna get rich working here. We pay okay, we look after our people properly [everyone is a shareholder, BTW], and you sleep the sleep of the righteous, but none of us do this for the money. We take the money, but its not about the money. If bling is your thing, apply at the parastatals. Better do it soon though that particular party appears to be winding down.
We meaningfully empower the people we work with. They are better connected to their business and can make Better Business Decisions. Those Better Business Decisions make their business more profitable, stronger and more resilient. This in turn keeps people employed, which pays salaries and taxes and groceries and teachers and healthcare and suppliers and utilities and transport and rates and so on, all of which keeps vital money pumping into the community. Which brings us neatly back to making people more valuable to the marketplace, the part that gets us out of bed in the morning with a smile.
Dont worry too much about exactly how we do what we do, or exactly what youll be doing. Well teach you everything you need to know. Its tough, but not impossible.
