Finance Manager

Role Description
As a Finance Manager, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the operations of the Financial Aid team. However, your role goes beyond managing finances. You will be at the forefront of our student service provision, executing this responsibility with compassion and care. You will also maintain good working relationships with other student service departments in the University, and student funders.

Duties
  • Implement the strategic plan for the Financial Aid unit within the Finance Department.
  • Implement the policies and procedures in line with the strategic plan.
  • Supervise the operations of the Financial Aid unit.
  • Manage the tracking of Financial Aid against the annual departmental budget.
  • Manage and supervise all aspects related to the Universitys Financial Aid, including NSFAS allocations, ensuring that students receive the financial support they need to succeed.
  • Supervise daily operations of the Financial Aid team.
  • Determine and report on staffing needs.
  • Apply disciplinary procedures and processes where necessary.
  • Develop and implement strategic financial goals and objectives for the Financial Aid, Management Accounting and Reporting units.
  • Implement a support system that encourages cross-functional cooperation and supports initiative-taking.
  • Implement appropriate accounting policies and procedures with the goal of producing timely and accurate reports.
  • Supply accurate information to feed into financial models in order to track progress and measure the University's performance.
  • Provide financial analysis of the Universitys Financial Aid to the Bursary committee.
  • Report on actual Financial Aid income.
  • Provide high quality service to students on financial aid matters.
  • Manage good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or equivalent
  • Honours degree in Accounting, or equivalent
  • Seven years of Financial Aid experience with at least 5 years of management experience in higher education
