Finance Assistant

Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) is focused on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market. Sanlam Life and Savings consists of three clusters - Sanlam Corporate, Sanlam Retail Mass and Sanlam Retail Affluent. The SLS Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the three clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defence functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.

Responsibilities

The SLS Finance Services function is responsible for delivering the following services to SLS, as well as other Clusters within Sanlam that make use of SAP S/4 Hana and related finance systems
  • The execution of shared financial transactions through the Finance Shared Services Centre.
  • Drive operational excellence and efficiency through finance process and technology optimisation.
  • Delivering an efficient financial control and compliance environment for SAP S/4 Hana and related finance systems.
  • Delivering on the consolidated financial reporting requirements for SLS.

What will you do?

The Finance Assistant role will be responsible for administrative support to the Finance Services team. The activities of this role will contribute to an effective work environment for the team to operate in. The role will also be responsible for some financial controls and act as an aid to the Accounts Payable and other teams within Finance Services in peak periods.

What will make you successful in this role?

The key performance areas of this role include the following:

Office administration
  • Diary management for senior managers
  • Schedule regular Finance Systems forums with various stakeholders
  • Arranging workstations for team changes and new appointments
  • Ensuring the necessary office facilities (e.g. stationary, printer , copier) for the team is maintained and available.
  • Coordinating team and other office events.
  • Act as Health & Safety Representative
Financial Controls and Payments
  • Ensuring that payments are being made on time using SAP S/4HANA.
  • Support to the Accounts Payable team in peak periods.
  • Monitoring select lines on the cost centre budget.
  • Assist with creating Master Data requests.
Reporting and presentations
  • Managing requests submitted to the teams shared mailbox.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly reports to cluster forums.
  • Assist with follow up of FinSys JIRA requests.
  • Preparation of monthly presentations to Finance Systems forums.
  • Assist senior manager with presentations in forums, including taking minutes and notes.
Qualification and Experience
  • Grade 12 with Accountancy as subject.
  • A Diploma in Commerce, Accounting or Finance or relevant field from a recognised institution will be advantageous.
  • 2 years in an administrative role with a financial services institution.
  • Experience in working in a Finance team will be advantageous.
  • Competent in using MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Confident user of SAP S/4HANA Finance.
  • Able user of SRS system and JIRA will be advantageous.
  • Exposure to any other systems used within Sanlam will be to your benefit.
