- To provide specialised sound legal advice to the business on all complex legal matters relating to business products or area or legal discipline, with the intention of enabling strategic outcomes for the business area. The main focus of the Legal Advisor Litigation is to help identify where litigation has the potential to advance and to work with business on how the case approach and evidence is managed To work closely with third party lawyers who represent the group and clients in courts, providing support, setting strategy, agreeing arguments and drafting submissions so as to ensure strategic impact, identifying and capitalising on opportunities to compel implementation of judgments at national, regional and international level
- Provide professional legal services which may include sound legal advice, expert drafting of legal documentation, managing disputes, and managing of legal matters of a litigious nature
- Assist with the consultation process on what needs to be briefed to external attorneys with the specific business area and facilitate the thinking on when to negotiate settlements
- Process all appeals and reviews on any decisions
- Brief attorneys and counsel on all appeal and review matters
- Arrange and attend consultations with attorneys and counsel
- Recommend in the appointment attorneys and counsel on review and appeal matters
- Report to business area management on legal matters
- Evaluate the merit of potentially litigious disputes and consult with the relevant stakeholders to protect the interests of the business area
- Ensure accurate documentation of cases , including maintaining oversight of the case docket for upcoming activities and keep up to date recording of case progress using the case sheet for each case
- Participate in external case file reviews to monitor progress, identify barriers and brainstorm solutions
- Maintain comprehensive electronic case files to a high professional standard using Sharepoint, complete with scanned original documentation, accurate case sheets, client engagement letters and summary translations of national language documents
- Keep the Legal Head Litigation business area, Legal Heads and Advisors abreast of developments in a timely fashion , raising opportunities and risks as they occur
- Maintain regular communication with external lawyers and other stakeholders
- Identify emerging legal risks and ensure training on legal risk management takes place
- Report on legal risk management in the business area, and seek input as well as guidance on more complex ambiguous issues
- Provide insight into the strategy for the business area and add value to decision-making processes alongside other business area managers
- Add value to the development and implementation of internal controls, policies and guidelines for the legal function and specific business area, ensuring their alignment to functional objectives and statutory requirements
- Understand the business unit goal sand consider same when executing transactions in an effective, efficient manner through the utilisation of automated and digitally enabled and simplified processes
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior legal advisers and direct reports in the litigation teams
- Stay up to date with all developments in the law in relation to areas of legal practice
- Monitor, analyse and evaluate the impact and legal implications of developments in the industry and related areas, including the activities of competitors, and pro-actively work with the Legal Centres of Expertise and recommend effective courses of action so that either a stance may be adopted, or potential threats may be averted

- Experience - At least 5 to 8 years' experience post articles experience in similar environment i.e
- Private equity, Corporate finance, Corporate Finance Management Consulting. etc.
- At least 5 years litigation, business rescue and Court experience and experience in managing
- litigation matters and disputes in both courts and Tribunals
- Experience in securities law
- Experience in insolvency law
- General experience in commercial law
- Proven working knowledge of Company law, Tax law and NCR
- Business report writing
- MS Office suite knowledge
- Experience in Turnarounds, Workouts and Restructuring is advantageous
