Maintenance Manager: Electrical, Mechanical

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of this post is to manage and delegate the maintenance and preventative maintenance work, services and equipment of all NMU Campuses in accordance with legislative requirements and NMU policies and procedures.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Manage, delegate and carry out:
  • Electrical maintenance and preventative maintenance as well as new electrical installations.
  • Mechanical maintenance and preventative maintenance as well as new mechanical installations on all the NMU Campuses.
  • Manage all the electrical and mechanical tasks related to projects.
  • Manage all staff reporting to this post.
  • Advise the George Campuses Supervisors regarding all electrical and mechanical work.
  • Manage all works requisitions, job cards and administration duties daily.
  • To work independently and complete all stand-by related work.
  • Ensure that all the maintenance and new work as well as the workshops comply with the Occupation Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Have good knowledge of maintenance and preventative maintenance building infrastructures.
  • Have excellent knowledge of Larger Buildings and Services infrastructure.
  • Have excellent knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Have good knowledge of supervising personnel.
  • Have good knowledge of reading, writing and calculation of technical data.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • Have good knowledge of building plans & specifications.
Requirements

In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must possess,
  • N6 certificate,
  • Electrical Trade Certificate,
  • Be registered as an Installation Electrician with the DOL,
  • 3-5 years trade related work experience,
  • Relevant Proven management or supervisory experience,
  • Code 8 drivers license (Category B),
  • Mechanical experience and any relevant related courses, e.g. Project management, will be advantageous, and
  • The candidate will be required on occasions to assist with call out work, after hours, 7 days a week.
