The Operations Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team to achieve operational objectives for safety, productivity, quality, costs, human resource capacity development and cultural change whilst continually pursuing opportunities to improve operational practices and processes.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the Converting Operations to meet business and customer requirements in an effective and efficient manner
- Create a culture of Continuous Improvement and implement a program whereby identified KPIs are met and opportunities to improve are identified, prioritized, resourced and executed
- Ensure that Maintenance Best Practices are implemented and strictly adhered to, in conjunction with the site-based engineering team.
- Compile and motivate plant-specific budgets, both operational and capital expenditure.
- Compile and timely submit reports and relevant documentation in line with business requirements.
- Control all costs related to the operations, within budget and report variances with reasons and defined corrective action, where possible
- Create and drive a culture where Safety, Health, Environment and Risk standards are adhered to and ensure that all activities within the department comply with statutory and group risk control policies and procedures.
- Create and drive a culture where manufacturing a product conforming to agreed quality specifications is "top of mind" and desired whilst ensuring that an effective Quality Control program is implemented and adhered to
- Manage and support Quality Assurance processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and conformance to customer requirements.
- Lead, coach and develop team members to improve performance and personal capability.
- Ensure that effective people development and performance management programs are implemented throughout the department, taking future organizational requirements into account.
- Create an environment that encourages and rewards High Performance, teamwork, and creativity whilst role-modelling the Company Group values.
- B.Sc. (Chem Eng.); B.Sc. Chemistry; B. Tech ( Pulp & Paper Technology) or B.Sc. ( Mech or Elec Eng.) or equivalent
- Have a minimum of 5 years experience in the manufacturing industry, of which 3-4 years at a similar management position or higher.
- Have a developed knowledge and understanding of business principles. A formal business qualification will be a definite advantage.
- Proven track record in leading and managing a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.
- Have strong industrial relations experience
- A lively and inquiring mind with a logical approach to work.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently
- Organized and structured work ethic.
