ADP Marine & Modular (a wholly owned subsidiary of Lycopodium) is accepting applications for a qualified, experienced Lead Piping Designer to join our Cape Town based team.
Reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, this position will involve, but not be limited to the following responsibilities:
- Produce piping designs that are in accordance with Project, Client and regulatory standards.
- Management of and responsibility for piping design and drafting resources assigned to allocated tasks to achieve agreed deliverable dates and budgets.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of fabrication and construction techniques in the materials handling industry.
- Work collaboratively with personnel across all business units.
- Appraise the layout and detailing of materials handling and mine plant design.
- Produce design drawings that are consistent with industry standard techniques and that comply to Company drawing office and CAD procedures.
- Ensuring project schedules and man-hour budgets are met for areas of assigned work.
- Producing Company and industry standard models and design drawings from design engineer calculations and sketches.
- Follow and implement all relevant Company standards and procedures and ensure design drawings comply with all relevant South African and International Standards.
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement of design and safety.
- Register and file all relevant project documentation in accordance to the Company approved procedures.
- Review of vendor drawings and design data.
- Ensure project design data of work is disseminated to other project team members in an efficient and timely manner.
- Proactively support other team members as required to ensure Project deliverables are met.
- Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design work criteria and deliverables.
- Compile project reporting requirements in accordance with Company and Client standards to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Manage all members of the Piping Design team in compliance with applicable project / study specific requirements and current industry work codes and standards.
- Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
- Advise the Project Manager and the Commercial Manager immediately on matters that negatively affect project goals.
- Suggest methods to improve operational efficiency.
- Contribute to designers in training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
- Ensure a high level of communication is attained within the design team.
- Provide leadership, guidance and direction to the design team as required.
- Travel on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering Design Drafting, or
- 10+ years proven experience in a similar role with relevant industry experience.
- Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables.
- Demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft suite of software packages, including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrate ability to and/or proficiency in the use of specific proprietary software packages relevant to the Drafting & Design discipline.
- Working knowledge of softwares in the Autodesk AEC suite would be advantageous AutoCAD 2d & 3D, Plant 3D, Advance Steel, Civil 3D etc.
- Technical background with a broad multi-disciplinary base, preferably in minerals processing plants / infrastructure construction.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve consistently high standards within both budgetary and schedule constraints.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
