Purpose of Job
As a Process Engineer II, you will form an integral part of the Future Technologies team at Sasol. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Innovation Engineering, you will play a vital role in driving our mission to develop innovative yet pragmatic process technology solutions, ensuring alignment with Sasol's strategic vision and sustainability goals.
You will be responsible for the process development, scale-up, and demonstration studies of future-focused processes, managing their implementation within the R&T project scope, and evaluating their effectiveness. Your strong base of process engineering knowledge will be key in contributing to the long-term objectives of Sasol, which include business requirements satisfaction and contribution to global sustainability.
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
- Support the Senior Manager, Innovation Engineering in developing and implementing our technology strategy, with a focus on the design, analysis, and optimization of future process technologies.
- Provide process engineering expertise in the development of new process technologies and the conversion of existing ones.
- Understand and incorporate business needs in technology development within R&T and assure alignment with research and development programs.
- Identifying and implementing innovative process solutions within assigned projects.
- Assist in strategic planning by developing process strategies that align with the overall business strategy.
- Design and model conceptual processes and scale up.
- Lead smaller-scale innovation projects within their area of expertise.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify key technical risks and support the successful development of innovative technology projects.
- Actively identify and resolve concerns and problems related to process engineering within future technology-related R&T projects.
- Enhance communication and reporting methods to provide clear and timely updates on process performance and innovation efforts.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure that process designs and modifications are integrated effectively within the broader system after handover to Sasol P&E.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented innovative solutions, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in process engineering.
- Act as a mentor and coach to junior engineers, fostering an environment of continuous learning and innovation.
- Balance multiple project priorities based on their potential impact, effectively managing a portfolio of R&T process projects.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and legal specifications, including adherence to internal guidelines and policies.
University Bachelors Degree in Engineering: Chemical
Formal Education (Wish)
Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering
Min Experience
Experience: 5+ relevant years in Engineering: Process
Additional Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in process engineering, with a focus on innovative technology development.
- Experience in chemicals, low-carbon fuels, refining, or a closely related technology area.
- Modelling experience and the ability to use/learn process simulation tools.
- Knowledge of process safety and environmental regulations.
- Basic understanding of the stages of the Technology Development Funnel, all the way from ideation through proof of concept, scale-up, and commercialisation.
PrEng ECSA Certification OR willingness to work towards achieving Professional Engineer (PrEng ECSA) certification within 3 years.
