Fundraising, Communications and Research Assistant (Johannesburg)

Since 2012, Raise the Children (RTC) has been investing in rural orphans that show a promise of success. RTC supports their school journey from Grade 8 onward with financial, academic, and psycho-social support. RTCs return on investment is realised when our Scholars empower those around them through work in the social service sector, job creation, or philanthropic activities after completing school. In 2024, Raise the Children will have more than 70 Scholars attending 13 schools across South Africa.

Raise the Children is seeking a Fundraising, Communications and Research assistant to support its work.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Support the organisations fundraising efforts through funder-related research, fundraising events management, data entry and donor relations
• Provide support for aspects of the organisation's internal and external communications including updating the website and official social media channels
• Support and grow the organisation's knowledge base through primary research with alumni, Scholars and prospective Scholars
• Provide general administrative and logistical support for the organisations activities

Responsibilities

Fundraising Support

• Prospect online for donors from corporations, foundations and trusts in South Africa and abroad, and compile a regular prospect report for the CEO
• Assist with planning and co-ordinating the organisations annual fundraising dinner together with the Founders, Board and CEO
• Solicit sponsorships for the annual fundraising dinner
• Assist with the data collection and entry for grant applications, for review by the CEO. This includes primary research done at prospective Scholar home visits.
• Work with the CEO to send out timely stewardship communication, including donation receipts

Communication

• Administer and update the organisations website and social media accounts
• Support the CEO and Scholar Programme Manager to liaise with partner schools and prospective Scholar families
• Serve as point of contact for general enquiries and refer them to the relevant parties

General Administration

• Ensure all legal documentation and registrations are up-to-date and accurate
• Support the Scholars'annual tertiary application process
• Provide support to Alumni job-seekers, including ongoing research of available learnerships, internships and employment opportunities
• Keep accurate online records of RTC alumni in the organizations database
• Manage relationships and queries with administrative service providers
• Facilitate and compile the annual household income survey for the organization
• Provide logistical support for home visits, school visits, job shadows and other RTC programmes

Qualifications, Experience, Values

• Minimum of a Bachelors Degree
• South African police clearance
• Fluency in multiple South African languages is preferred
• Background knowledge through lived or work experience of the contextual situation of disadvantaged, marginalized and volatile communities
• Background knowledge of South African social grant programmes and tertiary access funding options
• High level of computer literacy and digital communication skills
• A commitment to upholding the values of servant leadership
