A position for an Operational Risk Manager exists in the Santam Broker Solutions (SBS) team, based either in Johannesburg or Bellville (Cape Town) offices.

Role Purpose

The Operational Risk Manager will support the Santam Broker Solutions to monitor the overall risk profile of Santam Brokers Solutions business units, by enabling the identification of emerging risks in daily operation of the business. This will be achieved by providing oversight in the form of frameworks, policies, tools, and techniques to support appropriate risk management and control in the first line. Appropriate challenge is required to ensure that management has implemented the control framework appropriately, and that it operates effectively.

Principle Accountabilities
  • Assist Santam Broker Solutions in embedding a risk management process to identify, mitigate, monitor, report and escalate key strategic and operational risks within the parameters of the Boards risk appetite.
  • Support the Santam Broker Solutions in monitoring risk profile to ensure that key risks are managed, relevant action taken, and adequate controls have been implemented by management.
  • Overall coordination and aggregation of all key risks within Santam Broker Solutions for Risk Committee reporting purposes to provide a summary and overview of Santam Broker Solutions key risks.
  • Developing risk indicators to pro-actively identify risks and/or to act as early warning signs of events that may occur or risks that are not managed within predefined thresholds.
  • Obtain a good understanding of the external and internal business environment, including strategic and operational goals in order to evaluate and identify any new and emerging risks.
  • Obtain and aggregate loss events occurring throughout Santam Broker Solutions and report same into the ERM process.
  • Document an effective combined assurance model, ensuring appropriate coverage while minimising impact on business.
  • Manage and implement Risk Management Software and ensure alignment with the Sanlam Group Framework. This includes the full cycle of development and customisation, maintenance, testing, implementation, configuration, rollout and enhancement of the ERM software in support of the ERM function. A key success factor will be the design and implementation of reporting to ensure aggregation and integration.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Business and/or Risk Management degree
  • 5+ years Operational Risk Management experience
