Introduction

We are looking to recruit a Payroll Team Leader (SAP) to work within our Group Compensation & Benefits Services department. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Payroll Supervisor.

Job Description

Job Purpose:

To play a key role within the payroll team by assuming responsibility for the Group payroll including all associated activities in order to deliver a value adding, cost effective and customer focused payroll service to the business that fosters a culture of continuous improvement and by adhering to defined service level agreements.

Job Objectives
  • To manage the Payroll Team in ensuring that all staff are paid accurately and that payslips, statutory returns and reports are produced and validated in a timely manner
  • Ensure appropriate workload allocation, sharing of knowledge, review performance and instil a culture of continuous improvement and outstanding customer service
  • Provide any required training/development for team, including developing a structured induction for new starters
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulations/legislation, taking action and implementing changes where necessary. Ensure Payroll team are fully informed of any such changes
  • Utilise relevant reporting tools to maximize efficiency of processes, accuracy of data and to develop relevant Payroll KPIs
  • Work closely with the other Team Leaders within HR to ensure that processes are effective and efficient, taking an active role in service development/improvement activities
  • To ensure that all payroll functions in a particular area are done accurately, on time and in accordance with payroll procedures, company policies and legislative requirements
  • To ensure that relevant legislative requirements (e.g. tax returns) are executed according to deadline dates in a particular area
  • To ensure accurate processing of employee entitlements and statutory deductions e.g. tax, funds, healthcare, company cars, benefits
  • Validation and reconciliation of post payroll output
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure that processes align and work effectively
  • To effectively carry out reconciliations and audits monthly
  • To monitor exceptions weekly
  • To ensure that employee records in a particular area are safe, secure, accurate and updated
  • Liaise with internal and external Auditors, assisting as necessary and providing any required information
  • To ensure effective monthly reporting
  • To ensure timely and accurate response to internal and external customer queries
  • To ensure effective people management and development
Minimum Requirements

Experience and Qualifications:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification essential
  • 3-5 Years payroll supervisory experience
  • Experience working in a large complex payroll department
  • Experience in SAP HCM system
  • Strong SAP knowledge on systems, payroll and time
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, especially in an environment which includes extensive co-operation with human resources departments
  • Excellent MS skills - Excel advanced required
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of tax, UIF and all relevant remuneration regulations
  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act
  • Knowledge of relevant funds (medical aid, retirements, pension, provident)
  • Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Business (structures, lines of authority)
  • Thorough knowledge of SAP Payroll System
  • In depth knowledge of all payroll related taxes (PAYE, SITE, and VAT) and legislation
