Temporary Senior Accountant

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Entering expenses into the company's financial accounting (CostPoint).
  • Ensuring that all invoices are paid on time and that invoices agree with supporting documentation, including price quotes, purchase requests, purchase orders, timesheets, and contractual documents as per the company's policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that expenses are correctly allocated to different projects codes.
  • Preparing relevant travel advances, processing travel claims, and working with activity staff and consultants to resolve accounting related issues.
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations: ZAR, USD bank accounts and fleet card accounts; VAT and withholding reconciliation statements.
  • Preparing monthly vendor reconciliations for all company vendors.
  • Preparing monthly and mid-monthly payroll for staff and consultants and related third party deductions.
  • Ensuring all transactions are captured and completed in the financial accounting system for the month through the reconciliation process.
  • Ensuring reconciliation of fleet cards, toll fees, SANRAL, including creating payment vouchers and costpoint vouchering.
  • Loading approved payments' documentation for payment processing.
  • Preparing year-end schedules and reconciliations.
  • Submitting bi-monthly VAT returns with SARS.
  • Leading the preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Leading audit preparations, including timely responses to audit requests.
  • Supervising other finance staff as assigned.
  • Supporting the tavel and logistics team as needed.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent qualification and completion of SAICA trainee program. CA qualification would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in financial management and/or accounting.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting standards and financial regulations.
  • Experience working on USAID donor-funded would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of US Government financial and procurement rules and regulations would be an advantage.
  • Competent with CostPoint, VIP Payroll and other financial systems.
  • Sound analytical skills.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint, Google Workspace, [URL Removed] and Slack.
