The successful candidate must be able to work independently; have excellent writing skills in English; write relevant, commanding and factually correct news reports and articles weekly.
Main responsibilities:
- Independently conduct research and research for news reports and articles with a particular focus on general and sports news
- Develop story ideas and write for our print and online readers
- Write quality news reports and articles on strict deadlines
- Adhere to the content standards, quality and style as set out by the publication
- Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code
- Create and connect with a network of contacts for help with research for news reports / articles
- Can be asked to assist with production related tasks, take photos and create content for online and other media
- Fluent writing in the languages required by the publication (English)

- Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Journalism, Languages or Media Studies
- Experience in writing for a newspaper or magazine, preferably experience in a news office
- Good general knowledge and understanding of the publication's target market
- Local knowledge and knowledge of current affairs
- Valid driver's license
- Relevant computer skills
- A passion for media.
- The successful candidate must reside in Cape Town area or be willing to move if appointed.
- Subbing experience will be an advantage
