Junior Accountant (m/f/d)
Your Tasks
Objectives
The Junior Accountant will support the Senior Accountant and the rest of the finance team in managing the day-to-day accounting and finance operations, including the maintenance of book records, preparation of reporting documents (internal and external), internal and external audit processes and other ad-hoc tasks as required. The Junior Accountant will help to ensure compliance with the organizational financial guidelines and procedures to help safeguard the organization and further its objectives.
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting
- Responsible for the recording and maintenance of the accounts payable in the system (sage Intacct) in order to ensure complete and accurate records (ledger accounts and cost center allocation).
- Responsible for the weekly payment run (online banking) within internal predefined timelines; ensure that all relevant supporting documentation is in place and in compliance with policies and procedures, flagging any discrepancy or unusual item; maintain confidentiality and security of bank accounts.
- Engage with suppliers and respond to inquiries related to billing and payment, or others as required
- Cashbook and petty cash maintenance (including credit cards and fuel cards)
- Preparation and maintenance of intercompany payables / receivables; periodic clearing of intercompany reconciliations for group reporting
- General ledger maintenance, including periodic reconciliation on creditors, debtors and fixed asset registry
- Other general tasks as required by Senior Accountant or Finance Manager, which may include:
- Month end accounts closing activities
- Assist with annual external and periodic internal control reviews
- Assist and support other departments when and if required: compilation of reports, payment or invoice enquires, etc.
- Support Senior Accountant with the preparation and maintenance of operating expenses forecast and budget (P&L and cash flow)
- Support Senior Accountant with preparation of periodic reporting package to JUWI Group
- Support Senior Accountant with the preparation and submission of monthly management accounts to minority shareholder(s)
- Support Senior Accountant with periodic development cost reports
- Other ad-hoc reporting as may be required
- Support Senior Accountant with the preparation and submission of VAT returns, including timely payment when applicable
- Assist Senior Account with any compliance related, i.e., SARS, Stats SA, etc.
Qualifications And Experience
- Diploma in Bookkeeping / Accounting Diploma or Degree advantageous
- Proven accounting / bookkeeping work experience
- Minimum of 1 3 years work experience in similar role
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles and procedures
- Competency in MS Office and accounting software (sage Intacct)
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent numerical skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team
- Ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
- Ability to work within strict deadlines and reporting timetables
- Well organized, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask across different types of accounting-related projects
