What You Will Do
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain up to date electrical schematics on site, not limited to single line diagrams, Arc Flash Analysis studies.
- Responsible for the efficient electrical installation operation, maintenance and modifications of all electrical supply, distribution and emergency power supply which include but are not limited to 3x 700kVa Generators, 2x 11kV Transformers, PV Solar system.
- Responsible for the efficient electrical installation operation, maintenance, and modifications of all site operations manufacturing equipment / process.
- Responsible for the good engineering practices and complying to the appropriate safety standards and relevant codes of practice.
- Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of all equipment by applying sound electrical engineering maintenance practices, condition monitoring, equipment trouble shooting, repairs, modifications and upgrades.
- Responsible for the efficient and effective operation, and maintenance of all electrical systems and equipment in terms of areas classified as hazardous locations.
- Responsible for the efficient installation operation, maintenance and modification ofall site services, utilities, and equipment.
- This includes, but is not exclusive to, HVAC, air conditioning equipment, chilled water plant, steam generation and reticulation plant, compressed air plant, effluent plant, water purification plant, potable water reticulation systems, dust extraction plant and building management systems.
- Responsible for the good engineering practices and complying to the appropriate safety standards and relevant codes of practice.
- Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of all equipment by applying sound engineering maintenance practices, condition monitoring, equipment trouble shooting, repairs, modifications, and upgrades.
- Liaises with suppliers regarding repairs, preventative maintenance, maintaining of critical spares and new technology
- Ensures GMP, EHS and Quality requirements are met in the area of responsibility
- Ensures training and SOP compliance in the area of responsibility
- Actively participates in the identification and implementation of continuous improvements initiatives.
- Ensure efficient and effective delivery of services to ensure equipment /process/utilities availability by engaging with cross functional teams to ensure that the operations plan is met.
- Timeously conducts planned maintenance activities according to the maintenance schedules, reports work done, deviances or discrepancies within the schedules allocated and initiates corrective actions for any deviances or discrepancies noted.
- Performs regular inspections of all plant and equipment and reports any operational deviations to the Facilities Lead.
- Ensures that up time of plant and machinery is maintained by investigating breakdowns / inefficiencies and determines the root cause of the problem and performing the necessary corrective action to prevent re occurrence of similar problems.
- Undertakes all equipment repairs, overhauls, and modifications, by applying good engineering practices and ensuring that appropriate records are maintained and forwarded to Facilities Lead.
- Ensures thatall equipment, processes, facilities and utilities are operational. If a breakdown or planned shutdown occurs, will repair even if thismeans working after hours or weekends.
- Assists in planning, reviewing, and monitoring of the preventative maintenance program to optimize maintenance practices for all equipment in area of responsibility.
- Assists in the planning and control of equipment spares and maintenance stock inventories.
- Completes all ad hoc work requests as required.
- Ensure that standard operating procedures are at all times correct and relevant to the area / equipment. Assist the Facilities Lead with updating / editing the standard operating procedures as necessary.
- Assists with installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
- Ensure that all water and effluent treatment chemicals stock levels are maintained as prescribed.
- Responsible for Receiving of Kerosene as stipulated in the Standard Operating Procedure.
- Actively contributes to achieving corporate, site and department goals and objectives.
- Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
- Ensue adherence to SANS 10142-1, SANS 10142-2, and all relevant Hazardous Installation Regulations.
- Be aware and understand the relevant EHS Guidelines Summary and ISO 14001 Clauses Summary in accordance with the EHS and ISO 14001 Roles and Responsibility Matrix and maintain compliance to legislative requirements in accordance with EHS Programs.

- Shutdown and lock out Equipment/ Services/ Utilities/ Process that requires scheduled or unscheduled repairs/maintenance prior to performing any work and ensures that the Equipment/ Service/ Utility/Process is safe to use on completion of any repair/maintenance.
- Ensures that all equipment/machines used is maintained and operated ina safe manner.
- Ensures that all tools are safe to use at all times and are safe to use in the environment.
- Shut down and lockout any piece of Equipment/Service/Utility/Process that is unsafe to use and report this immediately to the Engineering Management.
- Adhere to all standard operating and safety procedures within the plant.
- Ensure compliance with all Engineering Services which includes Effluent Discharge conditions, maintaining log books for boilers and statuary checks/procedures.
- Ensure that all work performed by outside contractors complies to EHS requirements.
- Performs daily inspections of all utilities/services to ensure effective/safe operation.
- Performs weekly housekeeping inspections of all areas and performs necessary corrective action to meeting standards.
- Assists with the implementation and completion of action items to address non-compliance, deviations, investigations, and general audit findings.
- Assists with ensuring compliance with quality standards and GMP regulations on all technical operations activities.
- Assists the Facilities Lead with assigned project tasks and activities.
- Assists with ensuring that all assigned engineering projects are managed effectively and are completed within budget, time, Quality and EHS Standards.
- Keeps abreast of Engineering/Pharmaceutical/EHS innovations available locally and internationally.
- Assists with planning and supervisors various engineering projects, ensuring all projects adhere to acceptable engineering practices and compliance regulations, and are appropriately staffed.
- Supports and assists with any work/activity that may be scheduled or unscheduled as instructed by Engineering Management and in doing so ensuring corporate and local compliance requirements are met.
- Performs and is responsible for any service -related activity after hours or on weekends or from a call out basis to ensure operation ofall Operations Equipment, Services, Utilities and Plant processes.
- Ensures that time keeping is accurately maintained and is a true reflection of actual work done.
- Maintains compliance to company policies and procedures.
- Upgrades equipment to World Class Engineering standards.
- Support Validation process with IQ, OQ and PQ tasks as assigned.
- Implements and drives CIPs.
- Drives all engineering related corrective action requests and PCRs to completion.
- Closes out all engineering related audit action items as assigned.
- Ensure GMP, EHS and Quality compliance during the execution of the Plan and all related tasks.
- Compiles and reviews Equipment/Instruments SOPs and ensures timeous updates, performs necessary training, and ensures compliance with work instructions according to the relevant SOP's.
- Communicate and discuss with the Facilities Lead any situations that devia t es from the standard or conflicting priorities.
- Contrib u tes to the reduction of NCs (Non-Conformances), deviations and complaints. Participates in root cause analysis, countermeasures identification and implementation.
- Performs troubleshooting before requesting the services of external technical service providers.
- Ensure the integrity of the data captured in the CMMS is accurate and updated as required.
- Guarantee the order and cleanliness maintenance in the area of responsibility.
- Ensures compliance with the internal site requirements as well as HR policies and procedures. E.g., working hours, personal hygiene, etc.
- Ensure that cross functional team engagement occurs, and that communication is increased.
- Conducts internal EHS/Quality /Housekeeping audits and ensures corrective action plans are initiated and closed out for area of responsibility.
- Assists with ensuring legal compliance in terms of the OHS Act.
- Assists with ensuring compliance with Safety & Environmental requirements and regulations in all Engineering technical operational activities.
- Assist in the coaching and development of team members.
- Manages contractors to ensure tasks are executed safely and efficiently.
- Collaboration with internal and external stake holders.
- Encourages and promotes a healthy I.R. climate.
- Leads and delivers on actions related to regional optimization projects, in relation to validation requirements, compliance standards and user requirement specifications.
- Lead and support, where necessary, equipment supplier service level agreements and equipment vendor relations, to meet the departmental goals and requirements.
- Master Installation Electrician as registered with the DOL Not Negotiable.
- Appropriate trade test in Electrical or Millwright or qualified Refrigeration Technician
- 5 years working in the engineering or facilities field, in a pharmaceutical or FMGC environment will be an advantage
- 3 Years in the operation and control of HVAC or refrigeration systems and chilled water plant using building management systems including advanced preventative maintenance technologies and methodologies.
- Experience in operation and control of steam generation plant (Boilers) will be an advantage.
- Demonstrate technical competence in the facilities services and utilities field.
- Good understanding of equipment preventative maintenance principles and criticality matrix
- Project management skills and understanding of end -to-end project execution.

- Ability to work independently and within cross functional teams.
