- Master's degree in geology or mining operations
- 3+ years of work experience in underground mining operations
- Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
- Significant understanding of the industry dynamics of the mining sector
- Passion for analytics and interest in developing new approaches to mining data analysis and application to operational improvement
- Willing to work in a highly demanding and result-oriented team environment
- Exhibit self-motivation and high service-orientated work ethic
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
You will support our consultants and clients by collecting, summarizing, analyzing and synthetizing information that helps solve specific business problems in the basic materials industry.
In this role, you will perform a wide range of analytics tasks on various basic materials industries and more specifically mining operations, developing perspectives that are relevant to clients. You will collaborate with our global Basic Materials Insights network to share and build knowledge, best practices and relevant new ideas. In project work and in exchanges with colleagues, you will deal with new intellectual challenges daily as well as build your industry and functional knowledge on an ongoing basis.
The problems will often be of operational nature and you will use your knowledge, combined with McKinseys tools and frameworks, to solve these problems.
When not directly supporting clients, you will be refining and developing our offerings and assisting in the growth of the basic materials solutions and practice.

There is flexibility to hire at the Knowledge Analyst or Senior Knowledge Analyst level, depending on your experience.

You will join our Johannesburg office as part of our Client Capabilities Network asset team and our global Basic Materials insights network.
The Client Capabilities Network leverages McKinseys industry expertise alongside the extensive experience our mining professionals have along the entire mining value chain to help companies implement transformations at mine sites around the world.
The team helps companies to compare their operating, labor and cost performance to a broad set of peers. Our proprietary database includes equipment, cost and labor metrics from mining operations across the globe and you will be leveraging and improving our mining diagnostic methodologies.
